We are all now connected by the Internet, like neurons in a giant brain - these are the exact words of famous scientist Stephen Hawking (1). Without any signs of doubt, I think we can all agree - we have now reached a point when we cannot imagine our existences without the wonders that the Internet provides. Now, it's easier than ever to communicate with the ones we love, to work with partners or business all around the world, to constantly stay up to date with the most recent news or to enjoy all sorts of entertainment options.
Can you live without it?
We have now reached high speeds of internet connection, stability, reliability and accessibility - be it on cellular data, through wired or wireless connections. Statistics show that there are currently around 300 million wifi networks, at a global level (out of these, 82% represent home wi-fi connections and 18% public wi-fi networks).
Only during the last 4 years (2013-2017), the number of wireless access points has increased 9 times. Why? Posible answers may be:
- we use more mobile devices than ever;
- we are working more hours and we are constantly on the move, always carrying the laptop or tablet with us;
- studies show that we spend around 5 hours a day looking at our smartphones’ screen, using various chat or social media applications, sending or reading emails, browsing the internet, looking at videos, etc.
In other words, our everyday life is dependent on the internet connection. That is why in the central areas of the cities, individuals may come across dozens of wi-fi networks. But things are not that easy - most of the time we notice that these internet connections need a password to log in. Most of these networks are owned by residential buildings - each month, the owners of these routers pay a massive fee to their internet provider. The invoice they pay (through the contract they signed) contains a lot of bandwidth - however, they do not use it all and end up paying much more than it is worth, for their own needs.
World Wi-Fi - the next generation of Internet
Now, imagine a way to motivate people to open their wi-fi networks, in a manner that would benefit everyone. First of all, owners of this connections would need a compensation right?
World WI-FI designed a modern platform that offers wifi providers an incentive they can’t refuse - money. Being built through the collective efforts of the community, World Wi-Fi is the first project of this kind - a decentralized free wi-fi network powered by blockchain.
How will it operate? In a nutshell, all users who want to participate (homeowners, residents, business owners) will need to have a router - these devices will receive settings that will enable the networks to offer free internet access to users in their area. And just as we mentioned before, owners of this routers will be rewarded with cryptocurrency - through the display of internet ads.
This win-win operation will offer free internet for the users, will generate revenue for the router owners (by allowing other individuals in the area to use their bandwidth) and will guarantee a targeted reach for the advertisers.

This project sounds really amazing and ambitious. By enabling the world to access free internet connections, the creators are contributing to the world’s development. The internet is one of the most extensive private housing territories, which should be more affordable, smooth, and quick to access from anywhere around the globe.

I am not aware of this project. The idea seems sound but then a lot of ideas do.
What interests me is the ease of scalibilty of this project. In that way the potential of this project purely in terms of scalibility could be infinite. This sounds rad as all get out. Going over to the website now..........

World Wi-fi is an interesting project. The project put forward a simple but brilliant idea to provide free internet to the unaffordable ones. Cost of sccessing internet can be greatly reduced. The Internet access will turn out to be free. It's just awesome that we can even earn cryptocurrency by sharing Wi-Fi. Very soon, blockchain will revolutionize the world.

Hello!
Indeed, in our age, that is, in the age of high technology, it is difficult to imagine a person who, so to speak, does not hang on the Internet. For any reason, write a message, read the latest news or simply watch a video of cute seals. It's not a secret that Wi-Fi surrounds us everywhere, at home, on the street, even on buses. I also think that it's time to make money on it and this is an excellent opportunity for this. Receive money by providing the Internet to everyone.
Great news and thanks for sharing!

I wonder how this will affect security tho? Might be a security hazard if someone uses my wifi to download some illegal content. I'm not exactly comfortable with that.

Especially if you are in a public area that has a lot of facilities that provide internet network facilities. In public spaces, the public network of the Internet is manifested in the form of wireless or wireless.
The media process uses the WiFi protocol and the so-called diversity of hot spot areas. This resulted in the development of the internet running very fast. Internet network today is no longer a monopoly of certain circles such as offices or internet cafes. Even with the help of EVDO or HSDPA modem with tariffs of less than thousands, we can enjoy our own internet anywhere and anytime for a whole month.
With the internet, the world becomes a spaceless territory. What can be done at the same time on the internet in the same time period even though the distance is quite far away. This is what causes the Internet has become a basic need for some people, especially in developed countries.
All sectors can be used internet network to support their activities. This sector ranges from private, media to government, where they really need internet network as communication access. With the internet then coordination and communication can run well and more effectively.

I was involved with "FREE" Internet in the early days.
Here's archive.org's capture of my web page from back then...
https://web.archive.org/web/20010129060100/http://jabi.com:80/IPG/FREE.html
It's dated Jan 29, 2001.
What you have described is exactly what I was involved with back then except the new technology is wifi and blockchain. Thanks for sharing this info @danizaharie. I'm quite interested!
