Founder Brian Cai’s Foreword

Early in 2014, Brian Cai made a plan of starting his own business. At first, he planned to establish a cross-border exchange project which was named “UTransfer”. It had “TransferWise”, an Internet financial firm, as its competitor. TransferWise was a European start-up established by former Skype employees, which provides international transfer and currency exchange services with lower fees than traditional banks.

According to the statistics released by Financial Times, the total amount of transfers made on the TransferWise platform reached over 3 billion USD in 2015. Now, TransferWise has become a unicorn company with a valuation of more than 1 billion USD.

Brian had noticed this opportunity. Unfortunately, the domestic policy environment was vague at that time because the internationalization of RMB was not the clear-cut strategical direction in those days. The national government was pretty sensitive to things such as RMB and foreign exchange.
 

Also, Brian consulted with officials of the SAFE(State Administration of Foreign Exchange) in regards to this matter. They told him that this was a high-risk business. It could have easily classified as “Foreign Exchange Evasion.” Therefore, he abandoned his great idea.
 

Brian never gave up on his aspirations. He still paid close attention to the relevant news in the Fintech innovation field. Brian has a personal custom of reading “MIT Technology Review” on a regular basis. In 2014, he happened to notice a firm which was also doing a cross-border exchange with the use of blockchain technology. It later became known as Ripple. From then on, he started to pay attention to the blockchain world.
 

However, he is never rushed to devote himself to the blockchain entrepreneurship. In his spare time, he spent much time studying and researching how blockchain is going to revolutionize the financial world. 
In 2017, blockchain became a heated topic in the financial circle. After capturing financial derivatives as the breakthrough point, Brian resolutely resigned from the BOCOM and established Fortuna.

Technology Research and Development

FOTA

1. Finished developing core functions of the Web version and fixing all the functional bugs.
2. During this iteration, we’ll deal with the development of the last two modules, namely risk management and back office.
3. We’ll officially enter the coding and development phase regarding the APP version of FOTA this week.

Quantitative Modeling

1. Completed developing and deployment of new futures market making strategies on our new trading platform.
2. Realized new logic such as the K-line generation of the quantitative trading platform, and also had them deployed to the server.
3. Finished writing FOTA’s API requirements document, including market quotations inquiry, order placement, account inquiry, etc.
4. Determined design for the first batch of brand-new products which will be released on FOTA.
5. Finished designing of specific business logical flow for three new mechanisms.

Marketing and PR

Chinese Community Operations

1. Daily maintenance, topic guidance and activities planning of our Telegram group.
2. Recruited new loyal Fortuna supporters. Mailed Fortuna T-shirts to loyal Fortuna supporters.
3. Helped implement the Sino-US Blockchain Technology and Application Seminar and promoted its posters.
4. Made plans concerning recruiting city ambassador.
5. Collected data and distributed the rewards to active community members.
6. Contacted with Coinchat about red packet distribution event.

Overseas Community Operation

1. Daily maintenance, data analysis of official English, Korean and Russian community. （Fortuna’s Korean blog followers have reached 322, and it has gained a total visit of over 4000 times.)
2. Collected cooperation emails sent to our official mailbox.
3. Recruitment and interview of the U.S and U.K localization operational staff.
4. Paid reward for the most constructive questioner of the event ”Close talk with Z.T.”
5. Followed-up on bugs of the Black Friday platform.
6. Designed the framework of One-pager version of the whitepaper and added relevant contents.
7. Follow-up on the monthly plan of our foreign employees.
8. Shot and made the short YouTube interview video with our executive team.

Content Operations

1. Published WeChat official account articles. Daily news feed and maintenance of our self-established media channels.
2. Conducted data analysis of the contents released before.
3. Updated official promotion contents in Chinese, English, Russian, and Korean.
4. Added more contents to the BBS’s Newbie and top news zone.
5. Optimized the SEO search ranking, and also further refined the contents for Fortuna’s Baidupedia.
6. Confirmed three exclusive interview articles with Brian, founder of Fortuna.
7. Further refined Confluence content library.

Others

1. Made preparations for Sino-US Blockchain Technology and Application Seminar and had a post-seminar review.
2. Realized some relevant functions of Telegram bots and had further test and tuning.
3. Daily contact and communication with various event organizers, projects, and media channels.

Talent Hunting

1. Reviewed a total of 132 resumes this week. 28 candidates were given face-to-face interviews and 3 persons were hired.
2. Daily register of the newly-recruited employees.
3. Organized ice-breaking meeting for new newly-recruited employees.
