As the name suggests, blockchain games are general games using blockchain technology. The games always have developed with the advances in technology.

As I illustrated above, as technology advances, the possibility and features of game are expanding more day by day. So, what does blockchain bring to the game?
Among the changes that blockchains bring about, economy is attracting attention. The items and characters value in the real economy. It leads players to communicate, to negotiate, and to trade in the games as the real economy. 

How does the economy change the games? What does "having economy in the games" mean? In order to understand this story, I will explain the blockchain itself a little more.

What is Ethereum ?
There are three different generations in the blockchain, which depends on its starting time and purpose. Ethereum is categorized in the second generation blockchain project.  

Bitcoin is the most well-known blockchain, but it specializes in trading. Bitcoin is nothing more than a currency.　You may make an application to it, but the functions are only sending and receiving Bitcoin.

As a second generation blockchain, Ethereum brought an epoch-making innovation. In Ethereum, companies are using it to build new programs. 

Anyone can build decentralized applications on the blockchain by using Ethereum. Due to its function, Ethereum is now indispensable for developing blockchain games. 

Since then, many new projects are developing the third generation blockchains by applying the structure of Ethereum. However, for blockchain games, Ethereum still remains in the mainstream. 

New mechanisms that fit better with blockchain games might emerge in the future, but right now, Ethereum-based games are dominant in the market. In the next part, we will explain the key mechanism of blockchain games, which is called “NFT.”

As explained above, you might feel Bitcoin is the old generation blockchain, and a newer one is better than Bitcoin. But since Bitcoin is specialized in currency transactions, the processing speed, and robustness of Bitcoin still have a much better performance compared to other blockchain mechanisms.
Ethereum is better just for developing games. Depending on the use, the best block-chain changes.

What’s NFT (Non fungible Token)?  

Creating a unique data is one of advantage for Blockchain. Blockchain, as is in the structure, has the technology which does not allow the data to be unauthorizedly duplicated and modified.  

Before Blockchain:  

Data = Duplicable and Modifiable
Even if a creator uploads an image in pixiv with unauthorized reproduction prohibited as a rule, anyone could reuse the image if they try to do so.
You may remember there was a person who had illegally remodeled, wrong colored legendary Pokemon.

A thesis can be plagiarized even if you monitored a lot. Where there is a duplicable and revisable structure, there is a limit to the reliability of Data. From these conditions, we can estimate one of the reasons we are still using paper for votes and currencies.  

After Blockchain:  

Data = Unique  

Blockchain’s strong point is every data can be defined by “one and only”. It is epoch that it is realized not by making it rule but by defined,
because no one can copy and revise it if a person intentionally tries to. By Data not being able to be copied and revised, “which means only one in the world”, Data becomes to have rarity value as same as the only real Chaos Soldier in the world which is worth millions of dollars. 

Gold is valued not only for the rarity but for being "borderless with no credit risk.". Considering reliability equals value, the fact that the data can not be modified makes the data value as asset.  

We name this unique data NFT(Non-fungible Token) in Ethereum Network.  

By using the same structure, it is possible to make Game items and characters NFT as well. That is, we can create only one* sword (as a data) in the world.   *You can set it more than 2 in the world. As an example, in MyCryptoHeroes, there is "Napoleon Bonaparte" which is a high-value hero.  

Napoleon was limitedly sold at the opening of this game, and only nine exist in the world.No more will be issued. It is very high ability, high rarity, and high asset value.

Please imagine that you play a game and get an item which only 3 exists in the world. We can create the world like blue eyes white dragon in early stage of Yu-Gi-Oh. From these points, Blockchain is focused as a technology that will make Games to a higher level, and NFT is the main feature to enable this.

Blockchain technology such as NFT applies the data with value, so the time we can transfer not only information but also assets through the internet will come. We call it "the Internet of Value.”

Difference between “cryptocurrency wallet” & “cryptocurrency exchange.”  

When you start to play blockchain-based game, you need to understand two things, cryptocurrency wallet & cryptocurrency trade. Some of you may have already tried to play a blockchain-based game but gave up because of this tricky structure that doesn’t exist in present gaming (well, I did!).   

What’s the cryptocurrency wallet?  

Wallet is a software program where you store all the blockchain-based assets (ex. bitcoin, Ethereum, NFT). Like controlling the cash at the bank account, you can store/send/ receive all the blockchain-based assets. (not only cryptocurrency but all the other assets like NFT)  

To start playing a blockchain-based game, you first need to create a cryptocurrency wallet account. Also, once you create a wallet account, you can use it for all the other blockchain-based game.  

What’s cryptocurrency exchange?  

When you want to buy items in blockchain-based games, you need to exchange legal currencies like JPY, USD, EUR with ETH. Unfortunately, cryptocurrency wallet doesn’t have exchange function from legal currencies to cryptocurrency.  

To exchange your money for cryptocurrency, you need to create an account for the cryptocurrency “exchange” account. This is the tricky part of the blockchain game; you need both “wallet” account and “exchange” account.  

We would like to introduce the example of each service.  

Wallet: My Crypto Heroes’ official application
MCH official app has wallet function inside, so once you create account for my crypto heroes, you also get cryptocurrency wallet account too. 

You can use this wallet account at other blockchain-based game by using service called metamask (https://metamask.io/).

Metamask is chrome extension service which allows you to use wallet service on browser. By importing the wallet account information to metamask, you can use your wallet outside my cryptoheroes. Detail of these service will be explained at later article.
