As part of its digitization program, Australia has reportedly developed a Blockchain driver license registration solution
TrustGrid: an identification platform Blockchain
The Secure Logic Data Security Company based in Sydney launched the TrustGrid platform, a classic blockchain permissive solution with secure, decentralized and immutable transaction. The new platform is expected to face identification issues and support efforts to digitize public services - such as vehicle registration, title deeds and birth certificates.
New South Wales Government (NSW) announced in a news release on August 20 that it would conduct a pilot project for the 140,000 driving license holders in the Australian state prior to the planned implementation in 2019.
TrustGrid has already been the subject of such an initiative in the city of Dubbo in 2017 as reported by ZDNet at the time.

Santosh Devaraj , CEO of Secure Logic said that driver's licenses are the tip of the iceberg for public service transformation . Emerging technologies will end up radically changing the interaction between citizens and government over a 10-year period."The era of the endless queue for filing government documents is coming to an end. The same applies to our reliance on physical identification cards to establish your identity or proof of age with law enforcement agencies or authorized locations. These are prone to error, time-consuming, costly and impractical to provide services. "On the other hand, the Blockchain will provide more control and transparency to digital recordings, including health records in particular.
"While it is positive to see the government pursue a platform that has the potential to save lives, people are right to worry about how sensitive data is stored and may be exploited for unknown purposes. Rather than a black-and-white method of acceptance or refusal, TrustGrid could allow each person to establish the terms and conditions of their own digital contract that governs exactly what personal information will be disclosed - through careful consent and encryption policies. Devaraj added.
Getting closer to the government objective
The new program should use a distributed network for the authentication and storage of driver license registration data. Users could then present their credentials through a mobile application on their smartphones. The use of the Blockchain in digital identification follows a law promulgated rather this year. It granted the legality of government initiatives allowing residents to digitally submit their license information. The Australian nation tends to embrace emerging technologies, including the large distributed register, to foster a healthy digital economy.
In fact, an Australian federal agency for scientific research is collaborating with IBM for the development of a national Blockchain . It will enable companies to carry out transactions based on smart legal contracts .
