Two members of the German Bundestag (MdB) spoke about the Federal Government's upcoming blockchain strategy at a public hearing held on March 11.
This is explained by Antje Tillmann, finance spokeswoman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and her parliamentary colleague Matthias Hauer, that the strategy should include legal framework conditions for the trading of cryptocurrencies and tokens in order to promote blockchain technology in Germany.
Tillman and Hauer stress the importance of Blockchain and believe that technology will have a significant impact on the future of digitization. Therefore, a political foundation must be laid so that its potential can be fully developed.
In addition, they highlight the previous efforts of the CDU-led federal government, which has already started various blockchain pilot projects in the fields of electromobility, electricity trading and in the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. However, the two politicians stress that competitiveness in this area needs to be further strengthened:
"... for some time now there has been an increasing outflow of promising startups to European and non-European countries. Financing rounds based on blockchain technology (Initial Coin Offerings) are now almost exclusively held abroad. "
As a solution to this problem, Tillman and Hauer suggest that the blockchain strategy should provide a comprehensive set of rules for cryptocurrency and token trading. That's the only way to strengthen the domestic blockchain sector:
"The potential of blockchain technology can only be fully realized if legal certainty exists and potential risks are reduced. The goal must be to retain the entire added value of this promising technology in Germany and to develop our country into a pioneer of the blockchain economy. "
The aforementioned blockchain strategy is expected to be published by mid-2019.
