⚙The rapid growth of electronic related industries has caused an increasing demand for smaller and lighter batteries with improved safety characteristics, flexible geometry, and high energy density. A novel type of lithium-ion battery where liquid electrolytes are replaced by solid polymer electrolytes seems to have promising application in both portable electronic and hybrid electric vehicles. These batteries provide a higher specific energy than other lithium battery types and are being used in applications where weight is a critical feature - like tablet computers, cellular telephone handsets or radio-controlled aircraft.
📈Recent trends in this area are associated with incorporation of nanofillers such as #NAFEN into the polymer hosts (PEO, PPO, PAN, PVC and etc.) to offer new advanced types of nanocomposite electrolytes for lithium battery applications.
🔬Our developments showed that #NAFEN nanofibers could significantly improve PEO(polyethylene oxide) electrochemical stability and prevent such polymeric matrix from crystallization during the battery charge/discharge cycles. The achievements in improved cycle life of Li-polymer batteries could help the enterprises make a decisive step towards the wide implementation of such devices into a real-life applications.
