Blockchain Is Changing Education

Never has it been more important to get an education. It’s also more expensive than ever and it requires constant access to documents proving you graduated and did well in your classes. Fortunately there are plenty of companies working to provide access to educational materials on the blockchain, and some can even be used to earn degrees and certificates. There are a lot of challenges facing education today, and blockchain technology may offer an array of solutions.

Going to college has become the standard way to make it in your career. Unfortunately it has also never been more important to be able to prove that you actually got said education by way of producing transcripts and diplomas. Most of us have the ability to call up the college where we graduated and ask for a copy of the records, but what if your college has closed down? What if you fled a war-torn country as a refugee and your university was destroyed? There are plenty of ways proof of education can be lost or destroyed, and putting things like diplomas and transcripts on the blockchain can provide access when university systems become unreliable.

Massive open online courses are another blockchain-based solution to the global education crisis. Students can learn and complete coursework on the blockchain with everything recorded in real-time. Because the information exists across multiple data nodes it would take a massive worldwide disaster to lose your credentials. It gives access to information worldwide and creates a global online learning community instead of limiting education to those who can afford massive tuition bills. There are even some MOOCs that tokenize learning to create a reward system for students.

There are constantly new blockchain applications being discovered, and it’s just a matter of time before more potential uses for education start to pop up. Learn more about how blockchain is revolutionizing education from this infographic.
