Holochain is part of the Ceptr project and I found out about it by accident a few months back. It wasn't clear what the schedule for releasing any of this technology in the wild was but now I have received an email about it asking for help in spreading the world about a new Holochain crowdfunded project.
Holo is a new blockchain that is based on the idea of double-entry accounting to create a tokenless and coinless blockchain. Of course that is a bit of a cheat - a tautological argument - since it is only coinless in that in the system coins and tokens aren't created from nothing, they exist only by creating matching debt in another account. You want 1000 FOO? Okay find an account to give you 1000 FOO giving them a debt of 1000 FOO (or conversely a balance of -1000 FOO) and you get 1000 FOO. Then both parties sign off on the transaction and you get to go off and use that 1000 FOO.
What is that? Well it looks like they are going to be releasing an hardware device that will provide compute and I think storage hosting and will yield you payments in return. Here is a rendering of the device (or maybe an actual photo, I don' know):

They promise:
- Get a Holo hosting box
- Enable yourself and others to access distributed apps through a web browser and
- Get paid in our secure cryptocurrency – Holo fuel
This seems like a first - to actually bootstrap a project by selling hardware instead of just having software to run on your machine like so many other distributed compute systems. I look forward to seeing how this works and how successful it is.
