While the metaverse is becoming mainstream in the market, crypto whales are gobbling up a lesser-noticed gaming project.
According to WhaleStats, Gala Games (GALA) accounts for almost 1% of the total holdings of the top 1,000 Ethereum (ETH) whale wallets, around $519.5 million.
For comparison, popular gaming platforms Axie Infinity (AXS), Decentraland (MANA) and The Sandbox (SAND) are taking a smaller share. MANA accounted for 0.29% of the whale bag with a value of $171.9 million. SAND accounted for 0.24% with a value of $141.4 million.
WhaleStats doesn't have data for AXS at this time, although a new tweet says it's the third most popular search term on the site.
GALA is a gaming platform that combines NFT on blockchain, operating on both Ethereum & Binance Smart Chain ecosystems. It skyrocketed in value after being listed on Coinbase in November.
According to WhaleStats, GALA is in the TOP 10 coins held by whales the most. The average number of tokens held is over 1 million at a valuation of $519,591.
At the time of writing, GALA is down nearly 7% to $0.45. Like most other cryptocurrencies on the market, it has been going through a rough patch over the past few weeks after hitting a monthly high of $0.74 on Nov. Axie Infinity is also down slightly to $94.11, Decentraland is down 8% to $3, and The Sandbox is down 5.26% to $4.8.
