Block chain refers to a system in which transactions are processed in blocks; which in case of bitcoin is a 10minutes block.
Then this block is linked with another block thus linking all the transactions in that 10minutes block.
As these transactions are processed every person can view the whole ledger updating with the transactions which took place in the earlier block thus making it a very robust system in which everyone keeps record of everyone.
