Suppose you are expecting a baby and worried if he/she might get diabetes because of you or your spouse or if we take an example of Japan where today also the child is born mutated because of the effect of Hiroshima/Nagasaki incident. Now if I tell you that you can change the DNA of your unborn child and fix their diseases or deformities and it can do various other things that were just a thought earlier. The Medical science has reached at that level where you can do all of this with the help of Genome sequencing. Healthcare problems are increasing day by day and so as the technology to tackle it. Before going into what is SHIVOM, let me tell you some basic terms which are the foundation of shivom project.

What is Genome, Genomics and Genome Sequencing?

In a layman’s language, Genome is all the genetic information of an organism i.e. all the DNA information and knowledge about genes, ancestors, any hereditary diseases etc.

Genomics is a highly interdisciplinary study of DNA that provides the information about:

  • Ancestry
  • Susceptible disease
  • Potential drug treatment
  • Opportunities for precision medicine and new drug treatment
  • And many other things.
    Unfortunately, Genomic data is currently siloed, inaccessible and doesn’t reach its full potential to improve healthcare.

Genome Sequencing is the process of determining DNA sequence of an Organism’s Genome at a single time. Sequencing of DNA molecules are done which helps in detecting disease, reducing the effect of deformity in the child, detecting viruses etc.

What is Shivom?

Shivom is a platform which plans to merge genomic ecosystem with blockchain technology where users can get their genome sequenced and stored and provide an open web marketplace for providers to add their services and apps related to medicines, diseases, viruses etc and also it is a platform where genomic data analytics can be done which will provide users with personalised medicines establishing a highly scalable and fully integrated healthcare vertical.
Genomics in healthcare is growing rapidly and by studying the genome in depth, it can provide answers and cure to the rarest of diseases along with helping us to stay healthy with some pre-measures. However, this technology is not reaching its full potential due to lack of data accessibility to do a large project research. Shivom is trying to bring a change in this industry by collaborating genomic sequencing with Blockchain technology where everyone can get their genome sequenced and have full access to their data. The vision of Shivom project is to create the largest genomic data hub on a global scale.

Shivom ecosystem will be a fully integrated, open, shareable, scalable community for all the stakeholders.

How Shivom will work?

To tackle numerous challenges associated with today’s healthcare system, Shivom is developing a platform which will ensure that the data you provided of your genome is secured, shared with prior permission and get personal health insights from your raw genetic data.

When storing the healthcare data in a blockchain, cryptography is used to encrypt the contents of a message or transaction, so that only intended users can open and read. The user will be provided with a public key and private key, where public key will be known by everyone, but private key will be shared only with the potential researcher who can provide with the details related to DNA sequencing of the said user.3.PNG

TOKEN

Shivom’s ERC20 token will be called as OmiX(OMX), The OMX is the key component of the system which will enables buying, trading, incentivizing and other upcoming services. The token is the fuel of the internal mechanism of shivom ecosystem as well as part of the governance component of the system.

  • 3 billion tokens to be distributed.
  • 90M token to be distributed to the community.
  • 420M token for founder support.
  • 300M OMX token for advisors.

Proof of Concept

There is no proof of concept or any prototype listed on the website, but they provided the roadmap for the same.5.PNG

VERDICT

As per the vision of Shivom project, this idea does look promising and can take the healthcare system at the new heights which can help in detecting and curing of diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes will be possible and researchers will gain new insights about the same. To integrate into market, Shivom is planning to collaborate with medical centres, non-profit healthcare organisations, many support groups for the wide adoption of this platform. If this is achieved many problems related to healthcare can be looked from different perception and have access to the data to do the research on a very large population.
The negative aspect of this project is they still lack in providing any proof of concept, Educating the masses about genome sequencing and their benefits will take a lot of time and gathering them at this platform and asking for their data will be a major task.
I believe, Overall the team and the project look determined and have the capability to achieve this vision in the future.
