The DAPP ecosystem continues to grow and as discussed in the earlier post, the Blockstack appmining program has continued to nurture. Unlike other ways in which various decentralised platforms are nurturing their ecosystem, blockstack has chosen app mining competition wherein apps are reviewed every month by independent app reviewers. The program incentivises the app makers for the cumulative scores that they receive and the payouts are given out based on the rankings.
The structure has worked out quite well over the past one year and constant changes are being made based on the developments in blockstack as well as community feedback. Most of the decisions are taken after consulting with the blockstack community.
Last month, 40 new dapps were added taking the total active dapps to 250 and total number of dapps to around 300. The continued growth of dapp ecosystem however has not resulted in diversification in the kind of dapps being developed. Many developers point this to availability of tools which are still under development. Large scale multi user apps are still not explored that much.
New dapps are into decentralised storage, image processing, bookmarks, blogs, password manager, etc. Praveen who has created dapps like keysafe.xyz, contakts.me and fable dazzle which have been featured last month says that he wanted to explore blockstack. Having worked on developing dapps in Ethereum and EOS earlier, he was curious to explore blockstack. He feels that blockstack holds a huge potential and it is important to be part of this growth story at an early stage.
The app mining program reviews the app every month and updates the rankings which provides motivation for developers to continuously improve their app.
