What I have gained in one year plus on Steemit! + 2000ish Follower Thank You!

What have you gained from being here? Besides mad crypto gains. What else can you say you have picked up during your experience in this platform? I'll share some with you.

I've learned MUCH in my year here. Not just crypto but marketable job skills. Yes, by trying to become a better Steem user, I have become a more talented IT professional.

Most DEFINITELY the number #1 spot goes to learning Python. It's where the breadth of my accomplishments and contributions to my own knowledge and the wider community.

Another bullet on the ol' Resume

I already had another language in my repertoire and much syntactic structures are very similar. What I love the most about Python is the ease of use, dictionary data type manipulation, and it seems more trim than Windows Powershell for what I am using it for at least.

For loop comparison

For instance, where I would use a

for each($obj in $objs){ <script block> }

In PowerShell, I would use a:

for obj in objs:
    <Script block>

In Python.

I have been able to help others resolve node issues and also provided a solution for a BIP38 wallet issue using the Steem Python libraries. I've also produced a number of scripts to perform various functions.

Where there is a problem, there is a solution.

I learned how to automate an account to follow voters for instance.

Also, learned how to send batch transfers using my own loop structures. Had some difficulty with sporadic errors causing my loop to terminate but fixed that with exception handling.

Curation algorithm

I've also creating a basic curation algorithm using ranges based on vote timing. It can be improved but is a good basic framework. So, if I ever want to set my Steem curation to autopilot while I am away for an extended time like (Maybe for a backpacking adventure, you never know!). I can do that! Active curation is the best curation though!

It's really about time I read up on formal script formatting and create a GitHub repository to share the wealth.

That's enough about Python

Connections with others - Friends / Networking

This is a big one. I have made great friends here and belong to a larger community. One of the coolest things we did was crowdfunding for a sick sister in the faith. Not in the clear yet so keep Cindy in your prayers.

The power of people is something to behold.

So, next up is Steem Flag Rewards. There's a bit of polarized views as to when a flag is appropriate but it is irrefutable that this has mobilized a number of concerned Steem users to engage in increased flagging activity. Rewards are contingent on community support.

Flagging is a quality control mechanism. If a person don't bring anything worthwhile to the table with their posts, they shouldn't be posting and no, paying others for upvotes is not helpful and diminishes effective curation.

This has been my most recent project but one that I believe is the most promising. Here is the latest if you want to support flaggers with your vote. It is the way for the community to get behind flagging without having to worry about revenge flagging. Anybody can get added to the list of flaggers. Just comment with the link and I'll pull the metadata.

Ok, but do not think Steem Flag Rewards are a bunch of bounty hunter. We are also bridge builders. After some time considering the freesteem vote farming ring, we have decided to create a script to help these operators run engaging comment contest.

You may already know but, oftentimes, an engaging comment is more entertaining than the post itself. Now, that has potential! Turning vote farmers into comment farmers.

Now to my awesome followers

I don't like the word follower because it seems to have a connotation of being subordinate and I don't like to put myself above others. I like to say rather that you are my friends and family reason or another you clicked that button is because you believe in me in some way shape or fashion. Maybe you had seen me produce something novel. Maybe you had observed my peculiar beliefs. I don't know the multitude of reason that any of your followed me specifically. Could have been arbitrary for some. Could be a bot follow. But whatever...

All I want to say is that if you believe in this guy, thank you. It's motivating. And for real I need to get busy checking out the profiles of my new followers.

I hope y'all can be patient as I do the juggling of life of which we know a little bit about that.
