That special ingredient that creates greatness!steemCreated with Sketch.

Can you guess what ingredient it is? And I’m not talking about baking cakes. Or building houses!

The harnessing and exploiting of one’s emotions!

I’m talking about successful people and how they harness and exploit emotions to achieve what they want.

For example:

Have you ever considered a great actor’s talent and how it came about? He harnessed his own emotions in order to exploited and portray different personalities on stage and before the camera.

What of famous artists? People buy their paintings, according to how the picture appealed to their senses , moods and emotions.

Okay and who else?

And what of legendary lawyers? Even though they were highly intelligent with good memories, it was when they exploited the emotional factor, they generally won their cases.

Musicians compose music with a sensitive ear while emotionally tuned in.

And a pianist that caresses the keys makes more beautiful expressive music, than a heavy handed pianist making loud thumping music!

What about successful teachers?

They have no success when droning on about basic facts and possible principles governing theory. But it’s when they add facial expression and body language to demonstrate their statements, they get their pupils attention. And once they have gained students attention they work on the students’ emotions and inner needs.

  •  I had an English teacher like that. He made the set book: “Great Expectations” story come alive and in so doing, made everything sound easily understandable. Then asking a few poignant questions naturally triggered everyone’s input. Thus facts came to light and analyzing the situation back and forth between ourselves, put things in perspective. That is how I learnt how to breakdown facts into concise concepts and profound statements.

Okay, it’s your turn now!

What other types of people come to mind, which have used emotions to exploit their talent, positions or ventures? How did they do it? What was their particular trick?

I’m trying to prove a point:

  1. If we put more heart and expression into our art, craft or what we say and write, we will be more successful in what we do.
  2. Making people think about what you say write and do, makes for better blog posts.

Politicians. Haha, now I know you wanted to have a positive spin on this but there is a dark side to it too.

Looking at this from a South African perspective our politicians have a special nack of using emotions to exploit their positions and agendas . Recently a massive dump of emails surfaced exposing the rampant levels of corruption within the South African government, implicating several ministers and our President.

A UK company called Bell Pottinger that specialises in PR and the manipulation of emotions was brought in by people implicated in the emails to push a specific agenda within South African politics, severely damaging the economy and race relationships in South Africa. As each day goes by we learn more and more about the damage these people have done.

Being able to exploit the emotions of people is a powerful ability, one which I would like to think would be used more to do good and create things of beauty rather than to damage and destroy.

While writing the blog I realized there could be a negative issue to it. But hoped anyone reading it would realize they could make more of their talents and skills and thus have a much fulfilled and happier life.

Agreed @artguru!
Emotions play very important part in human life.
If one puts his "heart" to whatever his doing, the outcome is much better.

Often people think artists must be crazy, but they live a much more interesting and happier lifestyle than the serious 9-5 man in the street.

Some people have a lazy attitude towards expending emotional energy. I absolutely believe we are more creative and productive when we throw every aspect of our energy into our work - physical, emotional, spiritual, etc.

Thanks. That was my point. If we harnessed our emotions more effectively we would achieve greatness in whatever we love doing the most.

Yip, I read it straight after posting mine, and upvoted & promoted it. What impressed me was what was said about the body waiting and listening to our state of mind.

It's the heart that counts!
