Dangal Movie Review: Aamir Khan

Dangal is the best Bollywood film of 2016. Aamir Khan is one of the best achievements of his career. The film was handled flawlessly, and the emotional ups and downs in the script have reached a conclusion that will satisfy the audience; At the end of the movie I cried. The best example of Bollywood, but it also reflects the worst of Bollywood. My goal is not to overshadow the success of the film, you can see the success of watching the film. But there are three things I don't like about Bollywood.

First, Bollywood is sexist. Dangal documents a remarkable story of how women's wrestling emerged as the most common misogyny in India. And yet, this film is not about women, but about a man led by the male ego. As shown in the film, Mahavir Singh Phogat, motivated by his desire to reach total sports fame, was motivated by the desire to reach indirectly with his children because he could not obtain this victory. Everything in the movie is about this quest. Most of the inner life revealed by the other characters of the film is linked to this man's ego, and each one has been influenced by his wishes.

The quest for victory is not noble. Essentially masculine quest for both biological and cultural reasons. It's not a feature, it's a passion; This is not a force, it is a weakness to be overcome. Phogat cannot overcome this in the story and the film itself is consumed with this weakness.

To be honest, this article is not an uprising against Dangal. We need to consider the filmmakers only with the story they want to tell. If you return to Phogat's victory quest, this film is acceptable. However, in the first half of the film, Dangal's Phogat became an ugly character, considering that his daughters had acted as a vehicle for their own ambitions, not as people with their dreams, desires and rights. In this sense, the film was far-sighted, not reactionary.Aamir was a charming and admirable hero and left a nice support at the end of the film.

In the meantime, I have to clarify a problem: My comment is not about Phogat I met in real life, but about Phogat in the film. Personally, it must be very complex and thoughtful with very different motivations. But Bollywood always simplifies and Dangal simplifies the worst part of Phogat's character. This leads to the other item I'll explain below.

My second dislike about the movie: Bollywood simple. Bollywood has always been the only task that amuses and the simplicity that is required for it. Dangal takes the story of Phogat for victory and is the only subject of this film. Aamir is a great actor who is the best of his superstar colleagues, because he is the only one who can move, but each player is restricted within the scope of the scenario. In each story of the story, the story of each child, the despair of a community that reflects a single emotion, the reaction of all children of Phogat is monotonous and almost cartoonish. This simplification comes from the nature of expression, perhaps yes, but it still simplifies the film.

The camera moves a lot, there are many deceptive background music, and in no scene can we feel the rhythm of village life, the education in Akhara or the characters in the moments when the characters don't talk.

This simple nature, which dominates most of the Bollywood narratives, makes the films abundant, considering Bol, rather than art. And yes, Dangal is a dreamer (which can be considered perfect), although he is endowed with realistic traps. This brings us to the third item.

Third, Bollywood avoids realism. Apparently Dangal may be like a film that gives great importance to realism. The film is strikingly detailed, such as the bucket ears of wrestlers and Aamir's own physical appearance. Wrestling scenes are excellent. However, the appearance, accent and style are quite superficial. Although very well played - acting is extremely exceptional - the characters in the film are a single dimension, like a caricature without a deeper inner life. This is not only because of the simple nature of the scenario, but also because of its construction.
