Slowing down feels like freefalling. My body is in WTF mode. I am sooo groggy and disoriented. What time is it? What day is it? Can I really go outside in flats?

Montana to Los Angeles is a huge difference! I came from a town of like 80k. Our tallest building is like 6 stories high or something. We have one library. Two hospitals. Three high schools. I did grow up in Minneapolis before I moved to Montana though, so for me the city feels like a major relief. I don’t get to do this very often, maybe once a year. I love being surrounded by international languages and cultures, and just blending into the crowd. It feels so good.

I also went from freezing -4F to a comfy 75F. Even my work habits have had to adapt. Trying to write this post made me realize what a creature of habit I am! When I work on my computer at home I have all kinds of little things, just so. My chair, my computer height, my mouse..right down to the cinnimon in my coffee. I am house sitting for some friends, and I love their apartment but I seriously took like an hour just trying to figure out where I can comfortably sit and write, haha! The couch? No. The stool at the counter? No. The rug on the floor? YES! I feel like Goldilocks. (Ps i love how this rug photo mirrors the sailboat photo)

This is just what I wanted. A retreat. A reset button. This minimalist environment is just the thing too, because there are no distractions. Just me, my son, and some white walls and a cat. We do plan to wander around and see some sights, for example yesterday we went to Santa Monica for Christmas, and it was the best Christmas I have ever had, because I got to make Christmas what I wanted it to be. It was a long walk on the beach (even though it was a little smoky from the fires, which is why the sailboat photo is so silvery and grey) and just chilling and enjoying life. This minimal vacay might even force me into meditating and doing yoga! We shall see...

That beach looks pretty awesome!

A minimalist re-set in a warm climate sounds like just the thing.

It truly is. I wrote that just 5 days ago and it seems so long ago already. Had some nice time by the ocean, and some long walks. Going to do it again today..

I'll be thinking of you while I go out for a jog in this subzero weather!
