Happy St. Patrick's steemit

Downtown Buffalo NY, 2016

Being from the family O'Donnell and married to a Mc, it would be akin to sacrilege if I did not celebrate this day. And I have a few friends who year after year help me do this in style, many of those years included limos and nights to remember...that you couldn't quite...:

A brief history of St. Patty's Day in America:

St Patrick's Day began here with the Irish soldiers serving in the British army. The very first parade in New York City was held on March 17, 1762. It was about patriotism and it also helped the homesick Irish soldiers connect with their roots through traditional Irish music, and connect with one another, finding strength in numbers. As nearly a million Irish immigrants fled to America in the wake of the Great Potato Famine, St Patrick's Day parades became a display of unity and political strength as Irish immigrants were frequently victims of prejudice. Once their numbers were recognized however, the Irish organized and exercised their political muscle, becoming known as the “green machine”.

Though it was originally considered a religious holiday in recognition of St. Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland, it was also a time of feasting and drink...and it's clear which part of the celebration has stood the test of time. (Would it be wrong of me to say Thank God?)

I hope everyone had an awesome St. Patrick's, and those who are celebrating throughout the weekend, cheers!

Ha! Yup, have had some of those...

haha! Only for rookies. ;)

WOW - Flogging Molly - I haven't heard that in ages. I had the corned beef & potatoes in the crock pot since 10 this morning. So delicious! Had a beer. Listened to some bagpipes on YouTube and off to bed at a somewhat decent time tonight! Great pics @dreemit. When are we gonna see any of YOU? :)

Ha! Yeah, there's a picture of me in the steemit journey post...and a couple others throughout other posts. I am super vain, trying to work on that, only post the ones I don't hate, lol! The ones from these patty's parties? Yikes.

But here's one my stepson recently sent me from a party in December...I don't hate it, but I am sporting a few more pounds then I'd like ;)

This is a great pic. Woman, we're all sporting a few more pounds that we don't like! LOL It's why I don't tend to show anything below my neck. ;)

@kiwideb and I have been talking about this, she is quite inspirational...You'll probably see more pics of me in the summer after I've taken off the winter weight, haha! I am the eternal yo yo dieter, gain tons through the months of hibernation, lose it all hiking/biking/swimming in the nice weather. I like to say that it's super fun to put it all on (eat whatever I want) and actually I enjoy the challenge of taking it back off again too, LOL

I refuse to do the diet thing. I just eat when I'm hungry and try to make healthy choices. It would certainly help if I exercised more! It was great when I had to walk 3-4 miles round trip to get to and from work. Now I've no motivation to leave the house. Too many ongoing projects and no interviews. sigh

Actually, exercise and healthy eating comprises most of my dieting, though I do jump-start the program with a week of cleansing to speed up my sluggish metabolism :)

Ha! You beat me to it. That's exactly what I was going to say!

I didn't know St. Patrick's Day had such a rich history! Here I thought, it was just about getting drunk. I blame sitcoms for my earlier education of the occasion. Definitely #til

Fabulous selection, me darlin'. After some cranio sacral therapy yesterday, today I've been absolutely wiped out, but this lot got me toe tapping.

So glad you introduced me to Gaelic Storm. I've got Tell Me Ma all ready to do with my arthritis ladies, but I can see I need to do something to Darcy's Donkey for them too.

My contributions:

Van Morrison & The Chieftains - Irish Heartbeat:

The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York

Irish Rovers - Gypsy Rover

Excellent work dear friend @dreemit, it's a great party and it's done almost everywhere in the world.
Here in Argentina were a great event.
