Happy Wine Trail Wednesday: Tis The Season For Apple Cider Mimosas!

in blog •  6 years ago

It was a grey and gloomy day, what better time to go on the wine trail? Particularly when the wineries are doing it up harvest style!

We stopped at Toro Run first having heard something about seafood and a band.

I've never been to this winery before, located on a side street off of RT 89 in Varick NY, a few miles from Cayuga lake, but my first impression was a good one:

Sadly they must not have done proper advertising, because there was activities like cornhole set up, but not enough people milling around to play.

After a quick perusal of the winery and the grounds, we headed up to the tent where loud music promised fun.

And I couldn't fault the band for the lack of people, they were quite good! (A little Uptown Funk for you)

But we were in the mood for a crowd so after a couple of songs we headed out to Hosmer Winery, one of the oldest wineries in the area...

and found it hopping, largely thanks to a tour bus that arrived just before us.

A quick walk through the downstairs before heading upstairs to the party...

(unfortunately my camera was not a fan of the lighting, but you still get the idea)

I was momentarily distracted and forgot to take a picture of the delicious drink, but here you can see them being made- with apple cider, champagne, a little white wine and the glass rim dipped in caramel and brown sugar, YUM

Dad used to always tell stories about him and mama dreemit's dating days, and there was one common thread- she was not a cheap date because this Italian mama can hold her alcohol!

Hope you enjoyed this week's wine trail excursions!

That harvest festival that I played at was similar to the Bull Run, they had the cornhole things set up there too, but similarly, the crowds were missing at the Aux Arc harvest, probably not promoted enough.

It's always too bad when that happens, maybe they'll do a better job next year- they're fairly new so word has to get around.

Mama D and me must be opposite ends of the cheap date spectrum...

From what you've said, yep, have to concur haha!!

Perfect weather with awesome people around that's just an awesome day to remember :D

A winery you haven't visited? Man, it's like a hundred in one stretch there! Like fine wine, Mama Dreemit only gets better with age. Tapas and wine has got to be one of the best underrated combinations!
