I´m kinda amazed how many people here regard themselves as slaves to the state or see schools as places where you get brainwashed.

I´m a history student from germany, where we question constantly the contents of the curriculum and school books, even with the pupils.

The modern didacts are all centered around competences, so the children, atleast in higher school forms, are forced to pretty much think for themselves all the time and learn abilities, which allow them to transfer their knowlegde on new problems...

Its pretty clear, why the state has interest educating its children on its own terms, but it has less to do with brainwashing and more with the desire to assure that the kids don´t learn shit at home, so they can be mature citizens as adults.

The world is moving fast and so the knowledge in it. It´s pretty save to say that not everybody can keep up with it.

I don´t really have anything to say to op, I mean atleast you are interested in your child, there are many parents which aren´t, but many comments here just disturbed me and I just wanted to deliver another perspective.
