The last three months have been unhealthy...steemCreated with Sketch.

About three months ago, I was informed that my position of employ was made redundant. This was a significant mental, emotional and financial hurdle. I am an intelligent and ambitious individual; with a sprinkling of false bravado that resides behind a confident and charismatic veneer.

It is fundamentally difficult for me to exercise self control and positive self talk, especially when it comes to food.

As a result, the stressors of recent life have led to poor nutritional choices and indulgence in a vast reserve of empty, unhealthy caloric intake by way of alcohol, KFC, and ham and provolone toasted sandwhiches.

This ceases today. The last time I stepped on the scales, I was at 95 kg. About twenty minutes ago, I weighed in at 105. There's been no additional muscle mass in that weight; I haven't touched weights in about 4 months.

It's all diet. Exercise and maintaining high levels of activity certainly help, but I must clean up my diet and at the same time increase my physical activity levels to beyond what they were prior to falling off the wagon.

Diet wise, I'm making the following commitments:

  • No more alcohol
  • Limiting red meat to once a week
  • No chocolate
  • No milk
  • Less Apple Juice (a massive weakness of mine!)
  • Keeping a dairy of everything I shove in my mouth.

Writing it down makes it feel real. You don't need a special ocassion, new year or anything else to make changes in your life. You need willpower.

I need willpower, which is why I'm making this post; to have each and every one of you hold me accountable.

I'm giving myself six months to lose 20kg. I think that's a reasonable but ambitious goal. I'll be working out what that looks like from a macro nutrient point of view in a future post within 24 hours of this one.

Please hold me accountable guys!

Im 6'2" at about 175, and while im a bit thin, i think that ballpark is an excellent goal. How old are you? (If i may ask....)

I am 30 years old. I share your height.

Well, good luck with it man! The only one in there that I'd question would be cutting down on red meat. If you prepare it well, it can be excellent, healthy and very low on calories. Plus if you plan on exercising more, which you really should given the weight goals, all that extra protein will come in handy!

Wishing all the best, sir. Yunk on!

I have had a history of irritible bowel disease, and its generally advised that red meat is kept to a minimum with this condition. I obtain protein from tuna, salmon, turkey and chicken as a less calorically dense source. :)

Don't get me wrong... I fucking love steak. My problem is I'll eat 500 grams or more at once!

Yes the diary helped me too. I didnt do any limitations tho...so i pretty much ate everything just lesser portions. Made sure I only eat sweets in the mornings (very sweet-toothed here-my weakness) and the fridge is closed after 6 pm. Its a few simple tricks but it worked for me. I'm still not on my desired weight and I kinda doubt I'll ever be. :) ....20kg is doable in 6 months period and I have no doubt you will manage it. :)

I avoid dairy as if it were poison along with table sugar. Avoiding those two really helps!

I refuse to....we have cows and lots of dairy products (+ I love em.... cheese mmmmm). I just watch the portions. :) Same for shugar. I just don't think I should be punished for liking certain stuff. Heck I'd give u a point in shugar....that I do not need at all...and I should quit it...but what happens is I endure for some time and then when I break I end up sniffing it :D :D :D ...so I just rather stick to a bit here and there to soothe the adiction.

Tho i was talking about keeping a diary (book u write what you ate in). :>

Replace table sugar with honey as one option. It has a ton of calories in it, but at least it does not act like poison when it comes to your immune system. :)

Time lock on the fridge! I like this idea. We'll see in six months!

Writing it down is a great idea! Another thing you may want to try is planning your meals and snacks in advance. It's easier to track your total caloric intake that way. And, even better, I found that knowing what I was going to eat and when really helped me to curb my impulse to binge on junk food.

I'm mad for meal prep. I'll take a photo of my freezer when I get home. I just haven't been eating it!

Today I've got a combination of chicken, brown rice and veggies, at about 350grams total for lunch. Ive had a banana so far this morning.

Not sure for dinner yet tonight, but it wont be as bad as last night... one and a half pizzas... I can put food away like no ones business!

It's always a struggle, so I'll suggest a couple things to help. Saffron reduces your appetite. You can get the pills on Amazon. Red wine also reduces your appetite. I will have a glass when I get home from work, and it makes it so I do not snack for the rest of the night as I usually would.

I walk, swing a gada, and do pull ups for exercise. What do you do for exercise?

Please consider joining steemit.chat too. I'm usually on there in the #libertyprofessionals channel.

Ive got a rowing machine, enjoy walking, and have plenty if weights. Initially I'll be focusing on rebuilding cardiovascular fitness and will probably load a while bunch if weights into a backpack and walk uphill to help strengthen my trunk, core and lower body.

I walk to work with a backpack, and I put weights in it. :) That's a great way to exercise, and it is low impact--no damage to your knees, etc.

I've got the laptop, and other crap that comes with the backpack. Soon I'll have the opportunity to work from home, which will allow me to use my morning and afternoon transit time to be replaced with exercise (About 80 minutes extra all up)

I'm standing on a manual treadmill right now. I rarely walk on it these days, but at least it isn't sitting. Maybe consider a setup like mine? :) I use a shelf for a computer desk. It works very well and was cheap!

Good luck and I'll keep an eye out for your posts.

Good luck with the journey man

It's about willpower indeed. You acknowledged your lifestyle had a negative impact and therefor that lifestyle has to change. Acknowledgement can lead to action. Now just do it.

Perhaps you can work with smaller steps. And as you get used to less of this and less of that, adjust the volume until cutting it all. Smaller steps creates room for more milestones to be proud of during your road to getting where you want to get.

I hope you succeed mate.

I've used and liked https://www.myfitnesspal.com/ for tracking food intake and energy output. Good luck mate
