This is a post I write with mixed emotions. I'm in the process of breaking up with someone. That someone is my employer, and they told 1200 people just like me today, that in two weeks, they'll make a final decision about whether or not they will still have a role for me.
Its called redundancy and its giving me a lot to think about. It isn't the end of the world. The world doesn't care if 1200 people are unemployed. The universe didn't answer its calls. The media were onto the story moments after employees were informed. I went to go get some fresh air to find a camera crew outside my work building.
If the decision is made to make my role redundant, my last day of gainful employment with an employer of just over five years will be the 2nd of August. Appreciate this isn't the stuff I normally blog about, but its good news for you guys, as I will have some (well all) of the free time for Steemit while I search for a new occupation!
I'm pretty responsible financially, so I won't be outlandish in any spending, but you know what they say, you gotta spend money to make money! Just last night, I sent an email to my gym to cancel my membership, citing incredible workloads and not having enough time to think, let alone train (with recurring injuries holding me back as well!) - its the greatest irony that I got to respond to their "please stay" email with; "Well I'll have the time now, but probably not the money."
Stay tuned for more stuff from me on this here page. I'm unsure what the future holds, but pretty exciting to watch the entropy unfold. Don't worry, the one constant in my life throughout this will be Steemit! (I read this out loud to my partner, who still hasn't joined and she whined "There'll be me!") Yes, she's not going anywhere.

Today was tough in the office, but I'm staying positive. 4/7 of my team mates decided to "call in sick". One more day, then the weekend to recharge my batteries! Looks like I should be able to walk right into a new role at a different company with a former colleague and really good friend.

You'll be ok, just stay positive and focus. We are all becoming redundant to society so you won't be alone. Keep looking for new stuff, that would be responsible, but who knows, maybe during that time you will be able to live off what you make here. just focus on the possibilities that might be opening up for you now!

New doors will definitely open. There's no point imbibing alcohol like most of my peers in the workplace. Gotta look at the future, and invent a new purpose! :) Steemit has been instrumental in doing this. If something like this happened 2 years ago, I'd be 10+ drinks deep by now.

Thank you for the well wishes! There's a consultation (i.e Let's see if we won't lay you off) period of two weeks, but the writing is on the wall. I think it is over.For six weeks after that, they attempt to 'redeploy' you in the company, and then if they don't find me a role, I get paid my package.
I'm looking at it as a chance for personal growth; and a fresh start. If I do get laid off, it will be four days after my 30th!

Hey man that's awful to hear, I really hope you find a solution to your financial requirements. I remember years ago being laid off from work before I joined the military and it's an awful feeling. Not only losing your source of income but for me it was claiming unemployment benefit because I wanted to stand on my own two feet.
I truly wish you the best and hope you discover a solution.

The calculations I've done basically mean I won't need a job for 39 weeks or so, but I want to get back on the horse. No point having a bitch about what is going to happen.

Yep, I see an objective or goal, and even in my day to day, I want to attain that goal. If I step on someone's toes, so be it. If they're in the way, I'll still get to my goal. :)

Think I've been following you for a while. I enjoy a good read on here, recently been looking through my follows to remove the ones I just followed cos they followed me. I'd rather follow quality authors than fill my feed with crap ha, you're definetly one of the quality. I had so many followers who just posted rubbish it's amazing when you start out in steemit how little you know.

One employer's short sighted loss is another's gain. When you're one of the productive ones, a change of scenery isn't too daunting.
