Travelling In Cambodia : The Jockey Rides Forth...

in blog •  7 years ago

Last week I packed up a few possessions and jumped aboard a flight to Cambodia stopping for a night in another Asian capital city. I am now in a rooftop apartment in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. I intend to stay and travel here for a while.

I have spent time living in many of South East Asia's nations but this is my first trip to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Already I can see things are different from anywhere I have been before...

Into Cambodia

Cambodia has over 15 million people, a tragic recent history and fascinating ancient history!

My first impressions are that Phnom Penh has roads and drains that could needs repair. The streets are deserted at night. There is an abundance of European imported food but I suspect that has something to do with trade agreements. There are huge garment factories and significant poverty. There is obvious big investment from China into real estate. The immigration officers at the airport were speaking fluent Chinese...

Gallop Across Cambodia With Jockey!

As I am here in Cambodia I will write some posts about my experiences and adventures. This will not be a "follow me on my holidays" type of travelog - yawn! I will do some interesting things and look for experiences which are not normally sought. My knowledge of geopolitics will play a role in shaping my perspectives.

Perhaps my journey can be influenced by the Steemit community? I can see that there are two things I will definitely try to do while I am in Cambodia.

  1. Find a way of teaching Steemit to community projects that need the a Steemit income stream here in Cambodia!
  2. Visit the temple complex of Angkor Wat which I have been interested in since reading about it in Graham Hancock's excellent book Fingerprints Of The Gods. I will be carrying my copy and not the lonely planet when I visit the temples!

I am looking forward to exploring an Asian culture which is as yet unknown to me. Developing countries and Asians have so much knowledge to teach and it's always a pleasure to learn!

Any suggestions you may have for Cambodia would be greatly appreciated! =)

Historical places, suggestive of eternity. Thanks for the photo.

Wow, your pictures in this post are incredible. Excellent processing and color vibrancy. Thanks for sharing these - followed you and look forward to more posts from your trip in Cambodia.

Great post, fascinating country!
I can recommend to check out the island "Koh Rong Sanloem", it's a remote paradise.
Another place to get to know more about the tragic khmer rouge history are the Killing Fields near Phnom Penh - the audio guided tour is really interesting, shocking and worth the price.
In Kratie you can find a nice riverside walk, many delicious meals, and more..definitely try the "Beef Lok Lak".
Also Kampong Cham is an amazing place, there is the longest bamboo bridge, which you can also cross by car/scooter.
Cheers!
