When I see pictures like this i just feel like joining this contest

Feel free to do so ;)

Dear @juliank, just one thing: in this kind of photo, your should raise your diaphragm, up to f/16. This will give you some light rays that are really appreciated in this case. Of course, you are going to tell me that you can not have a longer exposure time (25 seconds probably limited to 30 seconds). I agree but you can raise your iso :
100 - 6,3
200 - 8
400 -11
800 -16
And iso 800 for your camera is acceptable!
One more thing, your white balance is perfect :-)
Hope it helps,
Vincent

Ah thanks! I have been doing some testing with long exposures since the weather is bad here and there is not a lot of light during the day. Perfect advise, will give it a try

up to me you can go to f/22 at iso 1600 but really look at 100% your results beacause the more you raise your diaphragm, the more you see the dust on the sensor :-) so you need to clean them grrrrr :-)

Haha, life is hard as a photographer ;p

Do you shoot jpeg or raw? And what is your software after that?

I shoot raw and use Lightroom

Ok :) if you post process single shots, I highly recommend you to test Capture NX2 as a Nikon user, because you are going to benefit from two things that Lightroom can not do :

  • manage dlighting (you can disable it afterwards so my advice is to let it in the automatic mode while shooting)
  • optimize the noise reduction and the vignetting

Interesting, did not know that. I will look at it thnx!

it is the Nikon native raw post process software :) but does not work like lightroom as there is no library. I think you understand I am not a Lightroom user and not a fan of it ahahaha

comment ok.

Typical Dutchy november days! Those days (or neverending nights Id better say) were the main reason for me to leave Holland. With the drizzle always lurking around the corner when getting your bike hahaha

I feel you. Where you born in the Netherlands or did work here?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Born and raised in Eindhoven, with kindergarden years in Los Angeles.

Three years ago I moved to the Caribean, Sint Maarten you know it from the news most likely recently;)

I was back home two weeks ago, the weather was exactly like your picture haha

Ah cool. How is Sint Maarten now? I do not really watch the news.

Haha will be leaving for Asia next year and I am looking to sell my winter coat ;)

Its still a mess here, but working on it! Trying to get tourism running again, and fixing a lot of roofs everywhere. And the weather ... oeeeee the weather. Thats just something that makes everything worth it. 28 in the day, 25 in the night.

Dont sell your coat as yet, Asia also has cold spots haha!

Sounds like a lot of work!

And the weather, damn... I would not mind that. That is very true! My winter coat is just too big, will get a cheap one in Asia when I am ready for the colder spots ;p

funy comment.

nice

Spot on!
Looking forward to 2018!

We first have to survive the winter!

True. But I don't mind the cold. I need more daylight!

thank you?

Thanks juliank! Almost a little ominious looking but I like it! The trees are amazing against that night sky!!

I hope to get some more inspiration when it stops raining for longer than 12 hours :P
