The Prairies - Through The Passenger Window

in blog •  6 years ago  (edited)

Have I mentioned how huge this country is? And how empty? This is my photojournal for the fourth day of our long journey home.

Twelve hundred kilometres of driving yesterday brought us across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and into south western Alberta where we are now resting up for a day in the town of Lethbridge.

I took some of these photos through the car window while Cathy was driving - usually at 110 Kph (70 Mph). Remember to use a high shutter speed if you try this!

Abandoned old structures dot the landscape.

Massive new grain elevators can be seen from a long ways off.

I like the old buildings but there are fewer of them left with each passing year.

Thunder storms were often seen on the horizon but we managed to avoid them all.

Near the end of the day as we made our way across southern Alberta.

Friday morning we head out for the final stage of our trip - across British Columbia, and back home to Vancouver Island. Snow in the mountains has put Jasper and Banff out of reach - we will take the road over Crow's Nest Pass into an area that was hit hard by forest fires this summer. I hope the smoke has cleared during the month we were away!

Thank you very much!

As always you are welcome my friend!

What amazing photographs @keithboone. It's hard to believe they were taken through a car window. Most impressive.

What a shame you won't be going to Jasper and Banff. I would like to have seen that.

What a huge number of miles you are doing in a day. I'm not sure I could sit in a car for that long. 😊

Safe travels tomorrow.

Thank you, Gillian! At this point, the hotel bills are adding up and we need to get home. The snow will be gone in two or three days but we really can't afford to wait.
