7 Healthy Foods for the Summer

in blog •  7 years ago

Whether you are sweating on a beach by sunbathing or relaxing on the balcony of your home while enjoying your coffee, keeping your body adequately hydrated should be at the top of your priority list this summer. The following 7 foods are rich in essential electrolytes (such as magnesium and potassium) or contain too much water and will therefore help your body stay hydrated during the peak season of summer. In addition, most of them are low in calories. So, supply the cooler for the beach with these healthy foods that will provide energy and hydration to your body at the same time.

  1. Watermelon
Watermelons are about 92% water, but this does not mean that their nutrient content is "dull." Watermelons contain significant amounts of vitamins A, B6 and C, as well as amino acids, antioxidants and lycopene, a phytonutrient that gives in the fruit their red color. This particular nutrient strengthens the heart and bones and also has anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, a portion of this fruit in cubes contains only 40 calories, thus deserving a place in your diet to maintain your beautiful silhouette for the beach.

  2. Cucumbers
Cucumbers contain more water than watermelon reaching 95%. Cucumbers, in addition to moisturizing, enhance your effort to slim down because they contain plenty of water and fewer calories. A medium-sized cucumber contains about 45 calories and so you can fill your stomach without guilt. He also avoided removing the exterior of the bark. The cucumber peel contains many nutrients, including vitamin C and vitamin K, which helps regulate blood clotting and contributes to bone health.

  3. Celery
As we have said before, proper hydration is essential during the summer. Prolonged physical activity of high intensity in the outdoors may deprive the body (through sweating) not only of water but also basic electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, sodium and calcium. These nutrients help keep the water where it is needed - in the body tissues - for the normal functioning of your body. Celery contains 95% water, about 6 calories per stem and is rich in vitamins A, C and K, B, as well as folic acid and potassium.

  4. Cherries
Sweet cherries are like a candy that comes out of the earth. They contain about 81% water and are at their peak in the summer, so enjoy as much as you can. A cup of cherries contains less than 100 calories and offers valuable nutrients such as vitamins B, flavonoids (which fight cancer) and 3 grams of fiber. They are also considered as a natural hypnotic because they contain melatonin. So, if a long day at the beach has overwhelmed you, drink a small amount of cherry juice or enjoy a small bowl of cherry dessert. They will help you maintain your form by replacing less healthy desserts (ice creams, sweets, etc.), improving your sleep and keeping ghrelin - the hormone of hunger - under control.

  5. Spinach
Summer salads are a perfect way to feed your body with the necessary nutrients and electrolytes, and at the same time control your hunger. Spinach contains 157 mg of magnesium per serving and is also a rich source of calcium. If you are worried that young members of your family will not prefer it, choose to serve the spinach raw because it is generally more acceptable to children than when cooked.

  6. Tomatoes
Few foods are tastier than a fresh, juicy tomato at the peak of summer. Whether in salads, sandwiches or omelettes, tomatoes are among the top choices in the list of healthy summer foods. Tomatoes are about 94% water and have few calories. A medium-sized tomato contains about 20 calories. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, vitamin C, potassium, and plenty of other nutrients. Studies have found that lycopene (a powerful antioxidant) helps protect your skin from harmful sun rays. Thus, in addition to helping replace the lost electrolytes such as potassium, tomatoes protect your skin from sunburns and help treat them from the inside out.

  7. Skim milk
In addition to the various vegetables that can keep your body moisturized in the heat, dairy products can also help to replace lost electrolytes because they are rich in electrolytes. That's why dairy foods are an excellent choice for outdoor entertainments on hot summer days. Try a smoothie with lean milk, vanilla, yoghurt, bananas, and some grated almonds.
