Devin Townsend is without a doubt one of the more colourful person of the world of music. The guy who started as a vocalist on Steve Vai's Sex & Religion album, prove to be original and full of ideas musician. He participate in many projects, but one of them made one of the greatest metal album I've ever heard - City by Strapping Young Lad
As I told, Devin was involved in many music projects. SYL was definitely used to realease tons of anger, and trust me, those years Canadian was fully pissed off into the world.
City is a 40 minutes of music. Not too much, but as we know - quality over quantity, and this is on top level. There is no weak moments, there is no boring periods, and there is no reason for that. From the beginging to the end "something has happen". Starting from Velvet Kevorkian - a brutal and vulgar introduction which sounds like rhytmic punching in a face though the killers like All Haild The New Flash or Oh My Fucking God. If you realize that it is not possible to play louder and heavier, couple of seconds later you will be crushed to the ground by the wall of sounds. AHTNF is like a mega beast machine which makes fatality, one after another. Want more? No problem, Oh My Fucking God is like a pills machine which makes Aspirin one hounder faster than usual with demonish vocals, even Satan can't recognize them. Another tracks like Detox, Home Nucleonis or Underneath The Waves are anoter machine gun bullets killers. Only slower moments are AAA and great Spirituality (also a Cop Shot Cop cover - Room 429)
Another great thing is a production. With every listening you can find new samples or sounds, which you never head before, this is great and even half year ago later you can find something new. This album gains more with every play.
At the end, some words about musicians. City was creadet by:
Devin Townsend - guitar, vocals, electronic
Jed Simmons - guitar (Zimmers Hole)
Byron Stroud - bass (Fear Factory, Zimmers Hole)
Gene Hoglan - drums (too much to say)
Listen and foger about internet omnibuses who name it "numetal" because there is no guitar solos, lol.
