In awe of the Rothschilds...the beginnings...

Firstly, I think we need to recognize and appreciate genius, talent, and industriousness - when we see it.
It is something to behold, and appreciate ( and to be critical of in later years..).

I am talking about the Rothchilds of course...

Love them or hate them - They are an a amazing family...

The ancestry of the Rothschilds traces back to 1577.

Izaak Elchanan Rothschild, whose name is derived from the German zum rothen Schild , meaning "with the red sign" - in reference to the house where the family lived for generations.

Houses were designated by signs with different symbols or colors, and not numbers.

( Izaak Elchanan was an Ashkenazi Jew,- see 'high IQ' in a previous post - ....called “red Jews” of Khazaria, they had ruled an empire on the north shores of the Black and Caspian seas. The Rothschilds - and most other Ashkenazi Jews, may actually be descended from the Khazars ... and several hundred miles away from the middle eastern areas of dispute, today..)

....moving forward to the 18th century...

Amschel Moses Rothschild was born about 1710, the son of Moses Kalman Rothschild.
The first known members of the family lived on No. 69 Judengasse in a house called zum Rot(h)en Schild (German for "Red Shield")

He married Schönche Lechnich.They had eight children, of whom five survived into adulthood.

Amschel's father had had a business in goods-trading and currency exchange.

With the help of relatives, Rothschild secured an apprenticeship under Jacob Wolf Oppenheimer, at the banking firm of Simon Wolf Oppenheimer in Hanover, in 1757.
He became a dealer in rare coins and won the patronage of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Hesse (who had also earlier patronised his father).

Rothschild's coin business ( buying and selling precious metals, I would assume...) grew. He then expanded to the banking services to Crown Prince Wilhelm.
Business expanded rapidly following the French Revolution.

1790: Mayer Amschel Rothschild states,

"Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws."

I can't help but respect the earlier endevours of the Rothschild family.
It appears to me that - initially at least - they were intelligent, hard working, and worked to be well connected.
