If you ever go to Las Vegas, don't forget the $20 trick!

in blog •  7 years ago

I have always loved gambling, I don't know why. From a young age I remember betting Pokemon cards on basketball games, and in high school I found poker. I became hooked, and at 18 I would drive hours to get to casinos on Indian reservations, dreaming of the day I could gamble in Las Vegas. When I finally turned 21 I went to Vegas and have been going back often since. This is a trick I read about when I was 21 that surprisingly worked for me, and has been working ever since. Last week I went to Vegas again and here's what happened.

The $20 trick

When checking into a hotel on the strip place a $20 bill in between your ID and you debit card.

After the customer service rep notices the $20, smile and ask if they have any complementary offers or upgrades available. They will smile back and check their computer system.

After just a moment, I was in checking in for 3 nights, to an upgraded room that would normally cost $50+ more per night for just $20 total. In the past I've also received show tickets, food vouches, discounts, and more. And is has worked 100% of the times I have tried it. So when in Vegas, pay for the cheap rooms, but get the upgrades! :)

Great writeup!
Keep sharing great content.
THanks!!

Thank you!

Haha ill have to try this. Are you discrete about it, corny, or just act natural? Ive read a post on reddit that most hotel chains will upgrade you for free if the room is available and just ask nicely.

I am kind of corny when I do it lol. I have also read that sometimes you can get away without the tip, but with the possibility of show tickets, food, or suites that they've even given me, I always choose to do the $20 ha. Thanks for the comment!
