So as the topic says, there's news out today that Harvard is set to change their admissions criteria and it looks like standardized testing will play an even smaller role. I think this is unfortunate as standardized testing is probably the fairest form of assessment. Sure it is not perfect but compared to the subjective metrics of the other options, I think it is pretty good already.
Now, from my personal experience, when these sort of fixed criteria is available, I tend to do pretty well whether it is for school admissions or job interviews. But when they aren't available, I do horribly. That's been my personal experience and I think a lot of people have the same experience.
There's the famous concert musician selection study. Where if you do a blind selection, the genders are pretty even but if you don't then there's a male gender bias. Oh well, either way, I am not planning to go to harvard anymore so it doesn't affect me.
