My First Published Picture and How It Came To Be

in blog •  6 years ago

Not that I will probably ever have another one, but that is not the point of the story. :)

To start the story, our town is host to the largest outdoor quilt show in the world. Over 1300 quilts will be displayed and over 10,000 people from around the world are expected to attend. More info on that can be found here.

The Sisters Quilt Show insert from The Bend Bulletin newspaper.

We were out to breakfast one morning and I was taking some pictures of the inside of the restaurant. It is called The Depot and has, as you would imagine, a railroad theme.

The inside of The Depot.

As I was taking pictures another patron approached me and asked if I was a photographer and could take some pictures for her for the quilt show. I told her I was an amateur with nearly zero experience taking portrait type photos. She was okay with that and we agreed that I would do the job and she could pay me what she thought was fair or not use the pictures at all and there would be no cost.

My image is in the upper right corner. I got a decent amount of cash for about an hours worth of work and some valuable experience

At any rate the show is in a couple weeks and she has asked me to take some more pictures. Hopefully my second paying gig. :)
