Last week there was a GoPro sponsored Onewheel race in Vail Colorado. Onewheels are an electric powered skateboards/hoverboards that are gaining popularity in the USA for their totally awesomeness and their offroad-ability. The board can reach speeds over 25mph and is on the 3rd version which is able to aggressively turn while maintaining it’s internal balancing gyroscope. The “one wheel” is a go kart wheel and is able to travel on multiple different surfaces including asphalt, sand, gravel, and dirt. A lot of people call it “dirt surfing” .

The race featured several elements like ramps and jumps and step downs. There were long stretches where competitors could bring their Onewheels to full speed >25 mph. Each rider was wearing full protection; helmets, knee and elbow guars and scrape proof tops.

The winner was a major underdog and took home the glory.
