An Effort to Rebuild — Or at Least Re-StartsteemCreated with Sketch.

There was a time when we were trying to "go places," both with our little Red Dragonfly Gallery, and with this blog.

At this time — February 5th, 2019 — we are pretty much having to face the reality that the physical incarnation of what we have been doing will soon go away.

The economics of trying to run a brick-and-mortar art gallery in a town with an aging demographic (future post coming up on that) simply doesn't work anymore.

And that's very sad, but we have to face reality.

As For This Blog...

But we're not going to throw away the Red Dragonfly name, completely!

We plan to keep going as a smaller online-only business, as well as an art-information type blog.

It's funny just how much times and fortunes can change.

Looking back to this time a year ago, our blogging efforts here actually represented a material part of the gallery's ability to pay its bills. With the price of Steem being strong, and Bitcoin not yet collapsed... we'd actually earned over US $1,000 in January 2018, just from blogging rewards!"

And that was just the 50% we were not powering up...

Fortunes change. This month — about a year later — we feel gratitude for 15-20 cents in rewards... although with a bit more effort, that could still change.

Still Delegating to @sndbox

We chose to power down most of our accumulated SP to help pay our bills at the gallery.

That said, we are still delegating 500SP to the @sndbox initiative, since it was largely thanks to our Sndbox membership that we did as well as we did.

We consider that delegation pretty much "sacred," for the foreseeable future.

Which leaves us with about 26 "free" SP to build on... but hopefully we'll be able to dig ourselves back out of the hole!

Central to that, the importance of "social connections" between artists. We've not had much time available for that, but whenever the physical location shuts down — sometime between now and June 30th — much more time will be freed up.

And that's about all the news, for now.

Thanks for reading!

Hi @reddragonfly, I'm sorry to hear about the need to close your physical location! However, I really do understand it. Galleries are hard in the best of times and in these post 2008 days any creative endeavor faces nearly impossible challenges just to stay afloat never mind thrive.

Kudos to your so many valiant efforts and your bright dream! And cheers to your next adventures.....

Thank you for the kind words @natureofbeing! We will continue to find and promote art, but sometimes changes are just inevitable. It seems people's "relationship" with art has been changing for a while... in many cases moving from "art as object" to "art as experience." With "ownership" becomes less and less relevant.

All the best on your own new direction and location!

Very well put -
