Harvey Weinstein's case and reasons you shouldn't aim at success

in blog •  7 years ago  (edited)

The news relates to Harvey Weinstein's use of power to control people deserve further thoughts that I would like to share with Steemit community.

Its everywhere - among predatory human beings- people without conscience or any kind of a moral compass see every opportunity as one to exploit those in a position of weakness.

It's upsetting, regrettable and, unfortunately, as old as human history.
Many of the most powerful stories of "success" are by underdogs that redefine what it means...meaning, purpose, presence in a personal pursuit, expertise and giving.

Deny the Harvey Weinstein's of the world their power by releasing the craving to which they hold the key. Find meaning in the struggle, joy in the pursuit and reward in the excellence and your story will be worthy.

The brilliant Viktor Frankl said it best: "Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself...." (Man's Search for Meaning)

Maybe being famous isn't really "meaning something in this world" maybe meaning something in this world has nothing to do with fame fortune or notoriety.
As confused as he sounded, Jim Carrey's latest video on a red carpet pretty much explains this.

Actors are more exposed than others, although the abuse of power is across all industries, because there's a real problem in the world- especially in Hollywood industry- with people being unwilling to pay artists, whether they're musicians, actors, authors, or visual artists. People invite them to events and are surprised when they ask to be paid for their time. They think they should do it for "exposure" or to "give back".
Try telling that to your attorney, or accountant, or dentist!

Beautifully put! I love the Frankl quote and I have been fascinated lately with what Jim Carrey has been saying and especially a video of his art and Studio. It is odd how in today’s society people don’t want to pay artists to the point that I think we even devalue our own work. Upvoting and resteeming.

Thank you so much for that!! I am a big fan of the late Jim Carrey :)

Gezus! You gave me a scare, I had to check the news and found the video you are referring to, glad he is still alive. When you say 'the late (person)' it means that person is passed away, dead. I believe you mean you are a big fan of Jim Carrey as of late.

I apologize, I'm Italian, sometimes, I make mistake when I write in English.

I know, I've read a few of your posts, including how I drink my espresso wrong😂 Your English is much much better than my Italiano, though to be fair, I only tried to learn on the flight to Milan, but that's a story for another day.

I agree with your sentiment that people should be paid for their art, not bamboozled into giving content for exposure.

Thanks for reading! I am from Sicily by the way (fuck the North lol....just kid)
Cheers poet :)

When you really want something you must be firm and determined. You must work hard and be willing to make sacrifices. You really must be willing to make any sacrifice in order to sleep with this disgusting ,slob!
