The war against drugs was never a war against drugs, it was always a war against people, it is people being arrested and beaten and prosecuted not drugs. And it is a war against the human need to use substances to feel good. How do you explain to someone why smoking a cigarette feels good, or why drinking beer is enjoyable, or why whatever substance makes people feel good. The war against drugs is also and especially a war against poor people. What is a poor person in a 3rd world country with no social net supposed to do when drugs gangs offer them money to do a ''job'', these people need to survive and will do what they need to do. A poor man can't feed his children morality as good as it may be. The solution was to understand the human need to feel good, in a world with so much shit that puts people down, and the role that drugs play in that, and to deal with that there. Instead the state comes up with simple solutions, let's ban it, throw those people away like garbage. Label them criminals etc. The revenge came in the form of gangs, cartels, corrupt cops, murders etc. who loved the monopoly that criminalisation offered. The best solution was always understanding that humans need something to feel good, and creating a legal, safe, and controlled way to enjoy this. I call it the good hands vs the bad hands. It's very simple either a corporation like Novartis sells the drugs or the gangs will sell it, the difference is Novartis will never hire hitmen to kill it's rivals, or corrupt the cops thereby damaging national security etc.
If you are pro drug war you must live very good and far away from those countries where the drug war means dead people on the street.
