Today I find myself on yet another trip to Amsterdam; a trip I've been taking every other week for the past couple of months and will continue to do so until Christmas (only 1 left...YAY). I was a frequent flyer in my previous job also.
I still can't quite get my head around the whole flying thing. That is a bunch of people arrive at a big building, lob themselves and their luggage on a big tube with wings and are then transported across hundreds or thousands of miles through the air to land on a specific strip of land.
To put this into perspective the land surface area of the earth is 57 268 900 square miles. That's quite a lot of land. Large commercial runways can be in the region of 5500m in length and 80 m wide - probably not even a hairs width in comparison.
I appreciate that we have gps and all that fancy stuff but still...it's a pretty amazing thing.
Don't get me started on sending stuff into space!
I guess it's just a step up from taking a train to work. One of the guys in our office comes over from Belfast every week. It must be cheap enough to be worth it.

Yes, amazing how cheap flights can be had for. If travelli g once a week, a return flight to Amsterdam is compatible in price to my weekly commute by car.
Getting on can be a bit of a scrummage though.... less so than some trains though I think.
