The Truth Behind Crystal Healing

Did you know that Westernized cultures (namely North America) are the only place where one will be able to see a commercial for a prescription drug in the middle of their favorite television show? Be it an advertisement for heartburn medication, nasal spray, or blood pressure pills, all of these commercials are legally required state the side effects of each individual drug. Oftentimes, the side effects include things to the effect of nausea, tremors, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, depression, bowel obstruction, rashes, and insomnia. These side effects sound much worse than the actual ailment one might be trying to regulate, right?

That’s where alternative medicine comes in. It’s something that’s been around since essentially the beginning of time, but it’s making quite a comeback as of late. It’s no surprise why, either. With more readily available access to more information about what’s in our medications and/or food that we consume, we realize that we really don’t want to be ingesting some of those things. The hefty list of side effects on almost any type of prescription drug often makes people wary of taking them, and from there, they look to a natural healing route.

One type of alternative medical therapy practice is crystal healing. It deals with alignment of your chakras and deals much more with the spirit within you, rather than the body on the outside. It’s believed that if the spirit is in the best shape that it can be in, the rest of the body will follow. However, is there any type of medical truth to this thought process? In this article, we’ll explore what we know from a scientific perspective.

Is Crystal Healing Effective?

While crystal healing has been largely categorized as a type of pseudoscience, ther are still millions of people who believe in its power. Dating back to the time of the Hopi Indians where accounts of people being healed by the energy that lies within crystals was first incorporated all the way up to today, it’s a practice that’s come a long way. It’s believed that certain crystals possess certain healing properties.

For example, when applied properly, rose quartz stones are thought to be able to help people emotionally heal from abusive situations. Amethyst is believed to promote feelings of peace within the restless or anxious mind. Blue apatite stones encourage lucid dreaming control when placed under a pillow, and diamonds absorb bad energy and convert it into light. The list of stones and their healing properties are miles long and the stones can even be combined with others to make a type of “healing cocktail”.

Many people charge their crystals in the sunlight or moonlight, depending on which one their stone of choice needs. After it’s charged properly, it’s ready to be used. After enduring especially spiritually draining situations such as being around large crowds of people or experiencing something inherently negative, it’s best to charge again and re-use. Many people have wonderful testimonials about the healing effects of crystals. They’re even able to be purchased at your local supermarkets. Many people choose to wrap them in wire and wear them around their neck. A few alternative medicine professionals have even opened up practices that deal specifically with crystal healing and chakra work.

What does Science Say About Crystal Healing?

Unfortunately, science has only one thing to say about it: it’s not real. However, it’s difficult to deduce the basis behind that statement because of really only one or two incredibly small studies being conducted in a lab setting. One of these studies, however, had half of their subjects hold a charged and energetic crystal and meditate for five minutes. The other half meditated for five minutes as well, but with a non-charged crystal. They both reported the same effects such as body tingling and feelings of enlightenment or a burden being removed which simply means – it’s a placebo effect. It’s all mind over matter.

Conclusively, if crystal healing is something that’s worked for you, that’s wonderful. It’s also important to know that if you have a serious and life threatening ailment, it’s best to seek out professional, real and scientific medical assistance. Crystals can’t stop you from bleeding to death or keep your pancreas regulated if you’re a diabetic. However, the effects of crystals in the mental health area have proved to work in overcoming traumas and depressive episodes in some instances. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to know if crystal healing is something that would work for you or not.

The experiment would have been more interesting if the control group had very good plastic substitutes.

good information ur post and information always tell us many new things sir...good work sir

Thank you Rob! :)

It's more like, if you believe crystal healing works, it will work. But it's true, it won't help you stop bleeding to death, professional, scientific medical advices are much needed in most of the time.

Cheers!

I agree!

Hard to say, isn't it? Here's the way I look at it: The "placebo effect" is a real thing, that part has been proven by science. As a result, we know that-- to some extent-- "mind over matter" is a real thing. So if you can "heal something" by holding a crystal-- because you believe it works-- where's the harm done?

Of course... "in moderation." The problems arise when someone thinks simply holding a charged crystal will solve any and all ills... including some that genuinely require medical attention.

Well said! :)

Im not saying I'm necessarily a believer, but I would point out one thing regarding the expt you described. The stones were presumably as similar as possible. We can therefore guess that they came from the same mine and had been handled bythe same people. In Brazilian mines at least the miners will tell you that whilst energising crystals changes their powers, they come out of the ground with a purity of their own. Therefore it could have been that all of the stones were positively "charged" anyway. I actually find that explanation as credible as everyone there having placebo effects.

Also, if those subjects had no idea of what to expect then perhaps it was the similarities and degree of effects that should have been measured?

But at the end of the day we might all be in the position of having no hope left for ourselves or a loved one through conventional medicine. Then we might wish pharmaceutical companies and medical experts had minded their own side-effective business and left us with a little magic to believe in...

Thanks for sharing this post, really informative, true for non-dangerous health situations why not look to natural causes to cure u rather than risking it by having medicines with more harm than ailments, I hate the side effects to medicines more than anything. First time hearing about this healing process and it really stuck with me would love to try this procedure :-)

I'm not 100% sure about healing. But I am very drawn to crystals and I "know" which one I need to wear in the morning.
