It's time to set aside selfishness, for survival.

These are strange days, these days we actively participate in our own destruction.
These are strange days, we see how our actions contribute to global warming and are technologically advanced enough to see how we are directly involved in our own destruction.
These are strange days, we see how our ancestors gave us a fighting chance which we seem to have squandered.
These are strange days, our actions are not in alignment with our values, we know that if we continue to behave as we are there will be a bleak future for our children, and for the seven generations who we are obligated to consider.

We have become prisoners in a consumer society which is in essense our own path to assisted suicide.
We have become our own worst enemies in so far as we refuse to drive less, we refuse to turn off the lights, we refuse to turn off the air conditioners, we refuse the path forward to survival despite the fact that our choices will undoubtedly lead to further planetary chaos.
We have looked into the future, we have seen the super storms, global warming, and loss of drinkable water, loss of breathable air, yet we continue to accept leadership which leads towards this bleak future, we have accepted that the choice is ours, and we have chosen to go quietly into the night, rather than raise the alarm.

The values needed to shift this to a better world are here, they exist in the world, we have seen the people sounding the alarm and have listened to their words, we have found all sorts of solutions, but we allow corporatists to control the resources we consume despite the fact that they are more willing to allow us to boil in this pot, like frogs set to slow boil.

We see things like the fires in Canada, we see the super storms like hurricane Maria, and before that super storm Sandy, we see how our air is unbreathable in parts of the world and the water is undrinkable across large sections of the world, even in the so called first world, we also see food corporations which genetically engineer our food to be grown in an environment saturated in caustics and poison.
We see all of these things, our eyes are not blind to the future, our ears are not deaf to the warning bells, however our self centered behavior is so complete that we are unwilling to make the needed changes to claim a future of potential survival.

So i ask, why are we not actively engaged in changing this world to a society where our values put survival at the front of all consideration?
My answer is selfishness, selfishness and an lack of willingness to be the first person to throw our bodies on the cogs of industry in an effort to halt the geocide.
It's too scary to leave behind comfort, it's too scary to leave behind safety, it's too scary to proceed into the unknown with the future generations of humanity as the focus of our present day behaviors.
Until we choose to set aside our comfort a utopia seems nearly unimaginable for the planet.

It doesn't help that most are living paycheck to paycheck & drowning in financial dept. It's very difficult to to evolve when tied to a financial ball+chain (house, car, education..).
