Is Being A Pro Gamer Worth It? What are your opinions?

Esports

In our modern age, a beautiful thing is emerging. A league for gamers. A true league. Gamers around the world are beginning to collaborate to the point where Esports has become such a big affair that it is known internationally; it is only growing. In the old days parents used to worry about their kids' obsessions with games, but now parents have to look at it sort of differently. Pros are emerging, making millions of dollars. The market in Feb of 2017 was approximately 470 million dollars. That was a 51% increase from 2015. It is estimated to be worth 1.5 billion buy 2020. A gaming career is an extremely serious career now, and it will only get more serious.

As gaming becomes more immersive and a part of our lives, more people will become accustomed to this upcoming societal behavior. Think of watching some real men playing basketball, while simulated professional gamers are capable of having spaceship warzones, or transformer combat. The imagination combined with the power of software development will bring amazingly creative games and environments for gamers, viewers, and pros to utilize. It may come to the point where there are games for gen pop as well.

Looking lucrative and like a blast, most don't know that being a professional gamer can be quite the challenging career. Practicing every day up to multiple hours coordinating team movement. A lot of stress can come with trying to sustain a championship. There are a lot of factors that aren't taken into account. Is it even a game to them anymore?

What do you think about this topic? Would you game professionally? What benefits and disadvantages do you see?

The video game development industry is huge! It'll be interesting to see how close the pro-gaming industry gets to the development industry in the future

Right?! I also am interested in seeing how it compares to athletic competitions.

I play Overwatch competitively, and have been somewhat following the emergence of the Overwatch League. OWL I find is fascinating because instead of teams being clubs that compete in prize pool tournaments where 60 matches happen over the course of a weekend where you can't possibly follow it all. Owl its modelled after the NFL with a round robin weekly match season that allows you to follow a team that has a defined geographic home base. Players have sustained dependable income with benefits, and an off season. This allows them to take breaks from the constant 52 week tournament season that can burn out players couped up in 17 person gamer houses. This is a healthy move to legitimise Esports into high quality entertainment that doesn't exploit the players leaving them without prospects our financial security at age 22 when they are forced into retirement by a loosing record.

Damn, that sounds awesome. We should totally play sometime, I just started my download before going to work. I haven't played close to 2 years, but it could be fun!

Sustainable income is a beautiful thing, especially if its done gaming :)
