My last two nights in Chicago

in blog •  6 years ago

I’m finally back in Minneapolis!

I arrived yesterday morning but was feeling extremely fatigued from the long hours stuck on a bus. My experience on the bus headed home was much better than the start of my journey but there was one girl who was being obnoxiously loud and it was disturbing the other passengers. I swore to myself that I’d say something in the next 15 minutes if she didn’t settle down. Yes, I’m the proud defender of sleepy travelers who crave peace and quiet. Thankfully she calmed down before things got ugly.

I fell asleep and when I woke up back in Minnesota I saw that there was snow on the ground. Ugh, I’m so not ready for the cold! @kommienezuspadt and @bonni picked me up at the station, it was so nice to see @bonni even if it was only for a few hours. She arrived in Minneapolis the day after I left for Chicago. I also had to drop @kommienezuspadt off at the airport this morning, he’ll be back in a week. Geez, this is such a crazy month for our family.

Anyways, here are some snapshots from my last two nights in Chicago.

Instead of going out Saturday @lonniedi, Peter and I stayed in to play Mansions of Madness again. Peter’s friends Paul and Kyle come along to play as well.

Can you tell that I’m obsessed with this game? It’s now on my wish list of games to purchase.

In this scenario we had to search for ingredients to pass along to an alchemist. Monsters were spawning all over the estate and we needed to make an elixir to be rid of them. Our party was almost positive that we’d lose the game but somehow we won! It was ridiculous! I couldn’t believe it. I thought I’d be the first to die. My dice rolls were terrible but we won! It was 2:30AM when we finished so we were all a little slap happy.

The next day, the bestie and I went to see the play She Kills Monsters. I’ve heard really great things about it.

We were actually supposed to attend the previous days showing but we were late. 😆 Ooops!

The story is about a college student who finds her late sisters journal. Inside is a D&D campaign. She seeks out a nerdy high schooler to teach her about the game, hoping that she can somehow become closer and learn something about the teenage sister that she ignored.

They presenting the story in such a fun and imaginative way.

We both laughed and got a bit teary near the end.

I won’t reveal anything more than that. Sorry! You have to go and see if if you’re able.

The stage and script was awaiting outside the theater.

There was also a display with character designs.

Pretty awesome.

The actors were able to master the art of lightning speed costume changes. It was shocking. I can only image the chaos backstage.

We were hungry after the play. Instead of going to a restaurant for dinner we decided to stop for groceries at H-mart. We got ourselves marinated beef short ribs, mini sausages, bbq eel, chinese broccoli and a bunch of snacks.

We browsed through the bakery on our way out.

Aren’t they magical?

I got myself a fruit creme brûlée and Lonnie for herself a green tea cake.

We took a Lyft back to her place and watched the last three episodes of Sabrina while snacking on our sweets.

It was really nice to have a few hours of relaxation before traveling back home. I was going to miss @lonniedi’s company so it was great to just chill.

And that sums up my weekend getaway.

What do you typically do on vacations? Do you relax and go with the flow or do you pack your schedule full of plans?

And those cakes <3. With green tea <33333. But a green tea cake? O_O

I really did! I wish I lived closer to @lonniedi!

The cakes were so so good. Have you ever had green tea cake?

I haven't ... but it sounds so delicious. I have a high expectation for it, since I love green tea and the ice cream xD.

Too many things to do in such a short time! Also a week sounds like an eternity, the important thing is that you enjoy the trip also to make you shorter and for God those sweets look very delicious I hope you enjoyed it!

We did so much. I’m proud of myself for not overbooking my schedule. It kinda kills the whole idea of a relaxing vacation. The cakes were the best! I can never say no to cakes or any type of custard. 😆❤️

Wow! You've done a lot of things!
You really have a lot of fun.
ah? partel green tea?
I've never seen it, it's so green!
An incredible journey! but of course one has to have peace and tranquility while traveling, sometimes those children are really annoying and I do not know why, but I also said that to myself hehehe "if she does not shut up, I tell her"

I know! That cake is super green and it has the perfect green tea flavoring. So delicious!

Yes! Thank you! Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who wouldn’t told that person to shut up. 😌

I would like to try it some day, although it is difficult because I do not think I will find it in my city. :(

hehehehe clear, patience has a limit.

This has been amazing to follow, foxi <3 Love your stories and the photos are very vintagey and lovely <3 <3 <3
