In the world of animals lived a hare very proud and vain, who did not stop proclaiming that she was the fastest and made fun of it to the slowness of the turtle.

• Hey, turtle, do not run so much that you're never going to reach your goal! The hare said laughing at the turtle.

One day, the turtle came up with an unusual bet on the hare:

• I'm sure I can win a race.

• To me? The hare asked amazed.

• Yes, yes, to you, said the turtle. Let's put our bets and let's see who wins the race.

The hare, very engrossed, accepted the bet.

So all the animals gathered to witness the race. The owl pointed out the points of departure and arrival, and without further ado began the race amid the incredulity of the attendees.

Astute and very self-confident, the hare let the tortoise take advantage and was mocking her. Then, he began to run quickly and surpassed the turtle that walked slowly, but without stopping. He stopped only halfway before a green and leafy meadow, where he prepared to rest before concluding the race. There she fell asleep, while the turtle continued walking, step after step, slowly, but without stopping.

When the hare woke up, he saw with dread that the turtle was a short distance from the goal. In a start, he ran with all his might, but it was too late: the turtle had reached the goal and won the race!

That day the hare learned, in the midst of a great humiliation, that one should never make fun of others. He also learned that overconfidence is an obstacle to achieving our goals. And that nobody, absolutely nobody, is better than anyone.
