My favourite Song

Background

It has been a while since I did a 'my favourites' list and I really enjoyed the interaction I had with you. So it's time to do one again.

What does music mean to me? Everything! I love to sing and have music on all the time. This probably comes from the fact that my Grandmothers father was a cantor and my dad inherited this talent. People say I have a pretty good voice as well, but I don't like to perform and put myself in the centre of attention. However music has always been a passion, growing up my mum always had the radio on, so I heard hits on a regular basis like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Queen, Aha, Europe, Duran Duran and Genesis, but also older (and for some of you forgotten/unknown) artists like Leonard Cohen, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Bee Gees, the Monkeys, John Denver, Bobby Darrin, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Joe Cocker, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Simon & Garfunkel .... I can go on for hours!

Growing up, music has always stayed with me and is an important part of my life. Some songs can really change my mood and motivate me for the day, other songs just remind me of a phase in my life when it played a big part to me at the time. Here are a few examples:

  • Red Box: For America (this song stayed in m head during the first decade of my life)
  • Solid HarmoniE: I Want You to Want Me (the first group I really enjoyed hearing and following)
  • Queen: Show must go On (I saw them life in Amsterdam (without Freddy off course) on Queensday in 2000 and I got shivers when they performed this song and I still do whenever I hear this song)
  • Mika: Relax, Take it Easy (Fantastic memories of the period when I first achieved some personal goals in life (thanks Laura!!!))

Most of these songs I still have on my iPhone and I just go back in time when I hear them come by in shuffle mode.

My favourites

Il Divo & Toni Braxton - the Time of our Lives, this was also our first dance at our wedding

For compiling my favourites list, I decided to base this off-course on my own music taste, but also decided that I had to exclude certain genres, just because I want to do a separate post about them. I have excluded film music and TV-Theme songs, I can do a whole post just about the impact of music in films. I also excluded classical music as I enjoy it a lot and don't want to mix it with 'modern artists'.

So here goes, my top favourite songs of all-time, in random order (choosing 1 favourite would be extremely difficult):

  • Queen: Don't Stop me Now
  • Bosson: Love this Life
  • Il Divo & Toni Braxton: the Time of our lives
  • Michael Jackson: Smooth Criminal & Black or White
  • Bon Jovi: Livin' on a Prayer
  • OneRepublic: Preacher
  • Linkin Park: Numb
  • the Beatles: Daytripper & Get Back
  • Bee Gees: Staying Alive
  • Bonnie Tyler: Holding out for a Hero
  • Ed Sheeran: Perfect & Supermarket Flowers
  • Mika: Relax, Take it Easy
  • Monty Python: Always look on the Bright Side of Life
  • Frank Sinatra: Fly me to the Moon
  • Imagine Dragons: Nothing left to Say & I Bet my Life
  • Journey: Don't Stop Believing
  • Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men: One Sweet Day

That opening is one of the best and the chorus is sooo memorable! Fantastic song, do you know them and which song I mean?

What do you think of my list? Do you know all these songs and would you add anything or take anything out?

I look forward to your comments!

Sounds like a plan, when I come to Croatia we hook up, when you come to Switzerland (German part) we hook up as well! I'm a big Imagine Dargons fan, I also love their new album, but Nothing Left to Say is epic for me.

any music is beautiful! but why is there no Russian music on your list?

To be honest, besides the national anthem I don’t know any Russian songs except from tatu and pussyriot, but neither have made anything that entices me. It’s nothing against Russian music as I do like classical stuff, but that’s excluded from this list.

Well, the anthem, it's good too.
I am now tormented by two feelings-
1.hochu you something to advise to listen. acquaintance.

  1. I'm afraid to become misunderstood, because my choice is great. I'm afraid to make a mistake

Believe it or not I only heard of Michael Jackson.

I can't believe that, there are quite a few modern artists there and plenty of old stuff!

I am from the Caribbean so I mainly like reggae, my favorite artist would be Dennis Brown .

It explains something 😉

I don't even know what to say, I don't even know any of the songs on the Playlist

You don't even know Michael Jackson?

very impressive, you have a very good musical taste.

which is more impressive, you make a list that is so neat, it is very cool in my opinion.

I know some of the singers, but I do not know the song.

you are wonderful to music @wolfje
