I've joined the Medium Partner Program

Don't worry that doesn't mean I won't be still writing and playing around here!

The program is Medium's way of paying authors, based on their version of upvotes: "Claps" - sounds familiar huh? The (big) difference is that this is a centralised platform with all of the money flowing from members (who pay $5 per month to get past the paywall) and through the Medium organisation.

After a year of getting paid to write here on Steemit, it's hard not to be a bit sceptical and wary. But I see it as a way to encourage myself to do longer-form more polished writing for a different, more mainstream and potentially bigger audience. Nothing will change here. I've been working on the sort of pieces that would suit Medium over the last few weeks. I see Steemit as the place where I will have fun, do shorter, lighter stuff and hang out with you guys. Oh and get paid quicker, as far as I can tell, the payroll over there runs once a month, rather than a week after publication.

Bottom line, it makes it easier for me to raise the bar on my writing and "diversify my income streams" :) I'll keep you up to date on how it's going.

I've already blogged on Medium for a while, everything will still be at the same URL, just that soon there'll be some stories that are Members Only.
