Saturday : Broth & Gardening

It's Saturday before Mother's Day and instead of going out this weekend to celebrate I wanted to keep it low key and stay at home. I also wanted to finally make the bone broth I've been craving and work on the garden beds.

Of course our weekend wouldn't be complete without an early trip out to Bunnings for more soil.

Here's the collection.

And a tool set for me and more seeds.

Since Hubby picked up our Mother's Day BBQ supplies yesterday we only had to pick up the veggies for the bone broth on our way home making it a very quick outing this morning.

After setting up my play list on spotify I got to broth prepping..

I asked my Facey brains trust last night for trusted recipes and although the came in hot, none were for the slow cooker so I had to look for a slow cooker version and made adjustments according to the advice I recieved.

Here's the recipe I followed. I added 2 cloves of garlic, 1 leek and 2 sprigs of thyme to my mix.

First step was to roast the bones 30 minutes on each side.

While that was roasting I chopped and added the veggies and 1tbs of apple cider vinegar to a 5L slow cooker.

Once the bones were roasted I added them to the slow cooker and topped it up with 3L of water.

And now I wait 18 hours for it to cook on low.

18 flipping hours, AT LEAST!! 😱😱😱

On the plus side I finally get to try the bone broth. I've craving this from the very start of my pregnancy but we never got around to it. It wasn't until we spoke to our midwife and she confirmed that my body, especially my knee, needed the broth that we got cracking.

Divide and conquer

While I was inside slaving in the kitchen Hubby was busy putting the garden beds together and by the time the bones were in the slow cooker he was up to this..

Yay!

It looks like he's going to push through and try to get the beds filled in today which means I need to figure out the planting part asap so I can get on to that tomorrow while he sets up the bbq.

But planning will have to wait cos right now it's nap time. Watch this space for updates on the broth and the garden tomorrow.

Happy Saturday my people!

Really loving the broth. It's only been 2 days and my knee feels much better already. Thanks for stopping by @porters! ❤

Hope the bone broth helps 😆 it’ll probably be amazing with the roasted bones, I’m too lazy for that and just throw them in 😆 though we’re usually using amassed leftovers so they’re cooked anyway?

Garden looking good too 🙃

I hope it helps too!! I'm so over the knee 😭 I think maybe if the bones have been cooked already the roasting wont matter? I dunno, it's my first time. The butcher told Hubby the he just chucked the bones in a pot + water then boiled them. Then the recipe lady said to not skip the roasting part.

I still have heaps of bones left to do one more batch so Im gonna do the straight boil method next and see which one we like best.
