Joseph - Child of Blessing
It is not as if everything this child touched turned to gold, but he was blessed none the less.
source
If memory serves, this child was blessed going out and coming in, as they say. Every where he went and every place he lived produced abundance. One of the meanings of the name 'Yoseph' is increaser.
I have to apologize for posting a picture of this scene from a movie about witchcraft with gold spawning more gold. It certainly was not a blessing in the movie. But as we go through the life of Joseph, you will see that things did increase all around him no matter where he went.
Let's take a look at his naming just after birth.
Pardon my crude diagram of the sounds and letters but you see, the two words are pronounced identically. The name contains a vav with a dot over it. That makes the letter-vowel combination into the vowel for the O sound (pronounced 'owe'). On the left, we have the large comma (yud) with a dot above it (the vowel for O) - in this case, the letter-vowel combination is also pronounced y-owe, but it represents a mail person doing the action - to add. (yosef). Take the word in between yosef and yosef, as written it means 'to say' (la-more). If a man were saying something, you would write yo-mer and it would have a yud with a dot over it at the beginning. That is the best I can do for why the two versions of yosef are spelled differently.
Back to the story
She was saying "may he add another son to me." Little did Rachel know that the name she chose would be a picture of Joseph's life and experiences in countless ways!
I will be talking about how the life of Joseph parallels that of Yeshua and one of those ways is his father's immense love for him. Even though he was not the first born, he was the one his father had waited for. He was the child of his first love, Rachel, and his favorite. He would one day save Israel from famine as well as all the nations.
That is all for this one. It is after all just a nugget.
Do with this as you will.
