Regatta "Volta às Ilhas Gererês" - July 2017

As a sailor, I will write a little about the feeling prior to a regatta. Tomorrow, the Paranaense Ocean Sailing Flotilla (FPRVO) has its third competition of the year. The competition will be in the Bay of Paranaguá, with the course going around the Gererês Islands.

It is in the South of Brazil, and is best known in the nautical environment because here Joshua Slocum, the great navigator, began the voyage of the boat "Liberdade" that he even built until the United States in the 19th century.

Today we wonder how the wind will be, and what is the best strategy to get ahead. It gives an anxiety.

The forecast for tomorrow is very weak winds, with sun and mild temperature. Good for a recreational sailing, but lousy for a regatta.

In the Bay of Paranaguá, besides the wind, the sailors fight with the effect of the tides that provoke strong currents and with the innumerable natural obstacles, like sandbanks and submerged stones.

The sailing community is small and we should have between 12 and 20 boats in the line.

On Sunday I will try to publish some photos and videos of this competition.

Everyone goes in search of fun and contact with nature, winning makes everything more special.

Não sou velejador mas nunca tinha reparado antes que o porto de Paranaguá, que tem fama de ser muito movimentado, fica tão dentro do continente. Valeu!!!
