Fear God and inherit the land: Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night. Joshua 1:8

The book of Joshua tells us about the conquest by the people of Israel of the promised land, Canaan. God had promised this land to the patriarchs since Abraham, and it fell to accomplish this mission to the successor of the prophet Moses, Joshua; so were the words of God to Joshua: "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them" Joshua 1:6.
The conquest was a challenge, the cities of the Canaanites were well-fortified and had well-armed armies, the Israelites could not rely only on their own forces, only God could guarantee success. And God at the time of the preparations for the conquest spoke with Joshua, and taught him that only those who fear God can be blessed, and so achieve their goals; if men obeyed the law, God would give them the land. The fidelity to the pact with God and his law depends on this beautiful spiritual gift. The law needs a well-disposed heart to receive it; the fear of God is constancy, firmness, and devotion.
Joshua as a military and spiritual leader had to inspire and set an example for his people, that is why God especially required to Joshua to fear him above all things and that meant meditating and continually keeping in mind the divine law.
With these words God addressed Joshua:
"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go" Joshua 1:7-9.
