Just attended a private book launch event, the book in question is called "Spiaking Singlish" (spiaking = speaking) by Dr Gwee Li Sui.
First, I think I need to explain abit about the word "Singlish", it is only available in Singapore and the word Singlish is a combination of "Singapore" and "English". Due to our multi-cultural environment, Singlish was formed by combining English with other local languages like Chinese, Malay or Tamil and dialects like Hokkien, Cantonese etc... Some of the comment words are "leh", "loh" , "steady pun pi pi", "ganjiong spider" etc..
So, this book naturally talks a lot about Singlish, from its history to its evolvement and the potential use/development in the future. Being a proud Singaporean, Singlish is part and parcel of the way we communicate with our families, friends and even colleagues (at times).
So, if you are interested to learn Singlish, do check out this book. Of if you have any question about Singlish, do feel free to ask me by commenting below.
Cheers!
