"At every stage, the publishing industry is steeped in woke thinking. Politics, not literary quality, become the primary concern. There is little place for plot-twisting page-turners, or beautiful literature or the fascinatingly informative. Instead, readers are expected to appreciate the “diversity” of the writer as they wade through a by-now familiar diet of intersectionality, social justice, gender ideology and critical race theory. Diversity, it turns out, does not mean difference but biological, intellectual and creative conformity."
This article describes my experience walking through Powell's a couple months ago, looking at all the books the store's staff highlighted and put on display.
Just about every one that wasn't widely known already such as Harry Potter had a description that was full of intersectional gibberish. It's almost jarring, given that Powell's is a shining example of capitalist success in a lot of ways, but it's staff and management are socialists and commies.
I just don't see how any of the books they highlighted actually sell any copies, but then I guess that might be all they sell to the regular crowd in Portland.
