Books across my table

in books •  8 years ago

I thought it would be interesting to Steemians to experience a a little of what is a daily routine for me. Being a bookseller (online), I end up with piles of books on my table, mostly sourced from auctions but many obtained through rather curious channels. Many people don't seem to value books and many a time would have ended up in the trash if I had not intervened.

When unpacking a newly-arrived box, there is always a sense of anticipation, what will I find? I must admit it is rather addictive.

What I intend to do in these posts is to share with you a few of the books I find interesting. There is no way I could list them all because the list would number in the hundreds.

So here are five of today's finds.

The Mars Mystery by Graham Hancock, Robert Bauval and John Grigsby, first published by Michael Joseph in 1998, Was there life on Mars or a link between the pyramids on Mars and in Egypt? I have my on views on that. Some of Hancock's theories make sense, other's I am not so sure of.

The Foster Gang by Henry John May and Iain Hamilton. A book about the Foster Gang, a gang of criminals who caused chaos on the streets of Johannesburg from July to September 1914. Johannesburg was a rugged frontier town at that time, it's hard to believe that was just over a hundred years ago.

You Must be New Around Here - Dick Pitman. The experiences of an English immigrant to Rhodesia in 1977. It looks like an interesting read.

A Very Strange Society by Allen Drury. Written in 1967 it portrays the evolving South African political system. A controversial book today I would guess.

The First Bushman's Path - Alan Jones. Stories, songs and legends of the San. Narrated by //Kabbo, one of the last of the /Xam San story-tellers.
