I don't typically get into the children's book market, but this one was too cool to pass up. I'm sure all of you have seen the movies, but did you know they were based upon a children's book published in 1990? Well here it is, written and delightfully illustrated by William Steig. This is the first printing, signed by Steig on the title page.

Interesting fact: The name "Shrek" is derived from the Yiddish and German Schreck ( Yiddish שרעק) meaning "fear" or "fright."

Once again, very cool! I did NOT know that was where the story originated. I hope the dude made some cash from the movies. Knowing these studios, probably not nearly what he should have....

Awesome find.

So it turns out that the story of the story of Shrek is like an ogre. It has layers!

Indeed!

Thank you for the interesting and educational post!

I had no idea Shrek was originally a book! Is the book better than the movie?!
